So far, yes, one side, but no pain, just itchy. Yeah, hope it's not shingles. Thanks.
I hope not either.

When I had a cluster of blisters/rash on my stomach (purply ones!), they ITCHED like no tomorrow. An RN at my work place (at the time) and later my own doctor both thought it was shingles- unfortunately at the time I don't think there was a real way to actually determine that it was. So.. "suspected shingles"- no idea what else it could have been. So itchy I now have a nice round scar where one of the blisters was- scratched it off intact (ow).

Never had any pain either-- just a constant itch and desire to rip that entire spot of skin OFF.

A little bit of anxiety right now...

I had shingles recently on my neck. Painful!!!

Feeling frustrated and discouraged with VA medical.

Background: On March 19 (2014), I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. At that time, my doctor said that she wanted to see me in three months for a followup. Three months was up on June 19. No appointment. Finally, today, the nurse for that clinic called me to make the appointment. The earliest available appointment is OCTOBER 8! That is NOT three months. That is almost SIX months!

I know it won't help now; but what I have done with a couple civilian doctors (being seen for different things) is making the followup appointment at the finish of the current appointment (before even leaving the office). Would they be willing to do this when a doctor says they want to see you after a given amount of time (such as the three months you mentioned).

How did it go?

Went well. Got the job but I am waiting to hear from HR dept to see what the salary is before making the decision.

I'm sorry that you experienced that. Are you OK now?

Yea I am but I had to take some nasty meds for 10 days 3 times a day. That was no fun. It was in a small area of my neck so that was a good thing.

That's horrible! Is that related to the scandal?

That would be great except that's not how appointments are made at VA. There is no appointment desk. For appointments with our primary care physician, we have to use the phone, which is one of those multi-message, multi-menu, on-hold-forever systems. For appointments with specialty clinics (which includes my neurology clinic), and out-sourced work (such as mammograms), the patient has to wait for a letter or phone call from that clinic. There is no direct way to contact the clinics for appointments.

The neurology clinic has appointments on Wednesday mornings, only. It took me almost six months to get my initial appointment.

Looking back on my symptoms timeline, I probably have had PD since March 2012, and didn't get diagnosed until March 2014. I should have started treatment a couple years ago.

(An aside--the first message that comes on the VA appointment phone line every time is, "If you feel like you want to harm yourself or others call 911." How do you like that?)

We're actually attached to one of the better hospitals not included in the scandal. I can't imagine what those other poor people are going thru.

Did your doctor suggest getting the shingles prevention shot after you are fully healed? I read that people can get shingles more than once, so I wonder if the shot would help prevent that. I need to see about getting that shot.

I hope the salary will be even more than what you need. :)

My dr said that you only get shingles once and that's it. I thought the same too. Maybe I should get a 2nd opinion.

Interesting. I read that the original virus (that caused the chicken pox and the shingles) lives on in your body forever.

This is confusing, for sure.

This seems like something it would be good to document and forward to the committee doing the current investigations. At least send to your own congressmen/women and senator.

She said that but the symptoms appear only once. I think she is wrong but I didn't get a 2nd opinion since my bout of shingles in March. Been too busy but I should make an apt with another dr while I am off this summer. I do not want to get the symptoms again. Even though it was in a small area, it was just so painful..I cant imagine if it had become larger. One co worker was out for a week when she got it all over her lower back.
