Since a thread was created recently regarding questions about past posts, I thought I'd create this thread so you can post questions for me and/or Alex to answer relating to the history of AllDeaf and changes that have been made. This is your chance to ask questions relating to AllDeaf's history or anything you want to know about AllDeaf. AllDeaf was founded in April 2002. I became a member in May 2002. Therefore, Alex and I are probably the two oldest active members in AllDeaf so we're surely able to answer any questions you might have.

So... post away!

Oh Ummm... I Do Believe That I Become Member Sometimes In August 2002 Or Something Like That ...

I Keep See Alldeaf Keeping Improve Every Year And Grown The Expand Members ..

Whoever Come Up The Idea About Alldeaf ... ( I Know The Little Story) Lol But Fire Away To Hear These ..

Glad, your explaination to us about AllDeaf History. That was interesting about Kevbo meet to Alex at RIT.

I remember, I was unwelcomed when I read several threads because I am a mother of two teenager sons. Somehow, I heard several my friends of mine resgristed this form. Then, I decided to be brave to join this. This form keeps me more younger.

Just Kidding !

Yes, I met Kevbo too at RIT. A friend of mine referred me to this site so I could review a post she made and give her my opinion on it. I bookmarked it and came across it later while reviewing my old bookmarks. That's when I decided to join AllDeaf. By the next day, I realized that this "Kevbo" I was seeing here... was the same Kevbo I knew from RIT. That's how I knew I was gonna be in a comfortable place. :thumb:

When AD was first created, I'm wondering where all the old threads/posts are at?....and I would love to hear how Alex came up with Alldeaf too....

Since I've been here, AD seem to improve almost everyday, and still love it here!

The best forum I've ever been to and proud to be a member here! :)

and btw , who is Kevbo?...

I answered that question already in another thread so I'll just quote what I said in that other thread:

No, we won't be able to view the posts from AllDeaf v1.0. When AllDeaf was first established, it was done using phpBB. phpBB is a kind of forum template that you can download and use. Alex decided to switch to a more advanced and more controlled forum template and that's when he switched to vBulletin. That's when AllDeaf went from ADv1.0 to ADv2.0, but that's when problems came up. Unfortunately, vBulletin is not compatible with phpBB so a lot of files were lost in the process. That's why we can only go as far back as ADv2.0 since we're still using vBulletin. If you want to read a post from ADv2.0, simply read the first post ever made... by Kevbo.

http://www.alldeaf.com/showthread.php?t=1

You'll notice the "1" at the end. That's the post number. Every new thread that's created will show increasing numbers. The latest thread created at this moment is 9889. That means, we've had 9,889 threads created since ADv2.0 was made. If you want to start reading threads from the beginning, you can do so from the index page. First, click on the forum you want to read old threads from. Second, click on the
sortasc.gif
icon that you see next to "Last Post". Now, the order of all threads will be reversed so the first will be the oldest unreplied thread and the last will be the most recent unreplied thread.

As for the images you're referring to, I don't know if it's still here. I can see if I can find that for you.

I hope this helps you understand a bit about the history of AllDeaf and how things work.

Kevbo is a friend of Alex. He was the 1st person to join AllDeaf after Alex established the forums. I've known Kevbo since 2000 when he came to RIT as a student.

Creating communities for the deaf and hard of hearing was a hobby of mine back then. I first established DeafAve.com, DeafModels.com and now AllDeaf.com

The old threads and posts are gone along with the phpBB software I once used. phpBB was, and still is, a free forum software. When I got vBulletin and tried exporting the old database, it just corrupted.

To get a glimpse of what AD looked like back then, go here: http://web.archive.org/web/*/alldeaf.com

I joined in Nov of 2002 and I remember getting a warning on my 4th or 5th post. I also remember what penisarium was like hahahaha holy shit you wouldn't believe what they used to talk about hahahahah

:werd:

And that's what I want my members to see in AllDeaf, as a calm and respectful community.

Cool...:D It's good to see a glimpse of what the old AllDeaf was like before I joined in 2003. ;)

 Alex,

1) What made you interested in creatin' AllDeaf ?
2) Do you have any other hobbies besided AllDeaf ?
3) Which hobby you like the most ?
4) Are you sellin' this AD forum in the near future just like books ?

1) The fact that I enjoy being part of my deaf community is what made me create this site.
2) Remote Control Cars used to be one of my biggest hobbies of mine. I think creating websites and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is my hobby these days.
3) No comment.
4) I've thought of selling AllDeaf in the past due to the fact that I've been, and still am, busy a lot and don't have the much needed time for site moderation. Who knows -- maybe if the price is right, then the lucky winner gets it all.
5) From what I understand, many deafies live far apart from each other, and I thought if I created an online deaf community it will help "all deaf" get together and have fun. :)

Whoa, Alex ! *Chucklin'* If, you are plannin' on doin' this.... then, AD members' experiences, knowledges, skills and talents cost them their lives. That's like you are their "author" by tellin' their stories through their experiences and all that. Are you goin' to pay some small percent to AD members for tellin' their experiences and everything that they shared their posts in AD threads ? Your AD website is like writin' stories just like books.
I hope that it don't betray AD members for feelin' that it is not fair if, you receive your own profit.
I better let the AD members decide for themselves and see, what is right for them..... :)
