The next morning, the chefs wake up to the sounds of chickens. Ramsay orders them to grab a bird and head to the kitchen. Ramsay waits with chicken in hand, holding it over a chopping block. Sous Chef Scott hands Ramsay a cleaver. Ramsay prepares to behead the chicken. The cleaver drops and misses the chicken’s neck. Chef smiles, “Not these chickens, you donuts!” The chefs are relieved.

Ramsay cuts a chicken into 8 pieces. The chefs have five minutes to each cut a chicken into pieces. The ladies score 44 out of a possible 48. Craig’s pieces aren’t up to Ramsay’s standards and his failure makes it impossible for the men to win. Their punishment is to pick peppers in the afternoon sun. The ladies get to visit one of the most famous restaurants in Hollywood.

Later that night, the women decide to start picking the guys apart, and sucker Jason into the hot tub.

The next morning, Ben calls Jason out on talking to the girls and warns Jason that he will have to do his best during that night’s service.

Chef Ramsay recites the menu and tells Bobby he’ll be cooking tableside. Bobby is worried about not being in the kitchen to keep the men together. Chef puts Jason on desserts, but when he can’t recite the menu, Ramsay sends him back upstairs.

Chef Ramsay shouts to Jean-Phillipe. It’s time to open the doors.

Craig struggles with the appetizer station, while Rosann messes up a salad order. Petrozza earns a compliment from Ramsay with his first order. Craig forgets to add bacon to an order and the men are letting him fail. Ramsay sends out the orders incomplete.

Louross pleads with Jason to return to the kitchen. When he does, he panics and can’t handle the pressure from Ramsay. Ramsay rounds up the men, and Jason tells them he’s ready to go home. Ramsay gives Jason one more chance, and he fights through it. He sends Jason back to the dessert station.

Ramsay calls the women around and kills their first order up. He orders them all to the meat section. Vanessa feels like a failure.

Out on the floor, Bobby prepares an order and hopes his team can have the other half of the order ready. Ben over cooks salmon and Sous Chef Scott lays into him. On the floor, Bobby does what he can to keep people happy.

The ladies set fire to a dish and Chef Ramsay can’t believe what he’s seeing.

Jason flounders in the dessert station, and Chef Ramsay wants a word… an angry word. Chef finds himself a corner and bangs his head on the cooking stations.

Ben kills another salmon dish and he sends the men into the women’s camp. Chef screams and tells Petrozza and Christina to head upstairs and think about who they want to nominate for elimination. Chef shuts down Hell’s Kitchen.

Petrozza and Christina talk over their decisions. Christina considers Corey, and Petrozza debates between Jason and Craig.

The chefs regroup in the dining hall. Petrozza nominates Jason, and Christina nominates Vanessa. Ramsay makes the tough choice, and sends Jason home. Vanessa narrowly escapes, and Chef Ramsay demands that the bad service at Hell’s Kitchen stop immediately.

Wow... even though I haven't watched this season yet, the story sounds good! :)

Wow... this sounds interesting. Will they ever have Hell's Kitchen on DVD?

Never mind... I just found out that the first season was released a few weeks ago. I guess the rest will follow every few months. :)

Seriously!? Aww... that sucks! I had the same problem with Mythbusters. :(

Yeah but the Hell's Kitchen DVD is made from a Canada company so that is why they didn't bother to add closed caption or english subtitles which sucks, it's the only DVD I have that has no english subtiles or closed caption, I am not sure to keep it or sell it....

Canada? Figures.

I had the same problem when they released the original Transformers television series on DVD. It was by a company named Rhino, which was located in Canada. Every time I complained to them, they would say that they would take my complaint into consideration for future products... which they never bothered to when they released the next season. Even when I complained after each season, they basically said the same thing over and over.

Recap (5-6-08)

Episode 406

Louross is annoyed with the high school mentality of the men’s team. Bobby and Ben plan to put the heat on Matt. However, in the other room, Matt and Louross complain about Bobby and Ben.

The next day, Chef tells the teams that they’ll be hosting a Sweet Sixteen party at Hell’s Kitchen. The challenge is that each team has $100 to purchase ingredients for three dishes: an appetizer and two entrées. Once they return to Hell’s Kitchen, they will have forty-five minutes to make the meal.

The stress on the Blue team is apparent and the men ignore Matt. The women huddle up and try to figure out what their dishes will be.

The teams rush back into the kitchen. Ben shouts out orders to the men while Corey tries to keep the Red team moving. Chef Ramsay gives the five minute warning as the teams rush for the finish line. Matt stews about being ignored. Chef introduces Melissa, whose 16th birthday will be celebrated at Hell’s Kitchen. She will be deciding the winning dishes tonight.

Melissa gives the men’s chicken wings a win. For her next dish choice, Melissa likes the women’s halibut. The tie-breaking dishes come out. The Red team offers up a flank steak and the men have a variation of surf-and-turf. Melissa chooses the men’s dish. The men head out to play, while the women have to stay behind and dress Hell’s Kitchen for the party.

During the prep time, Shayna is putting a little too much heart into her Mango salsa. Ben tells her the ingredients won’t mix well, and the women think Shayna is wasting too much time making it.

Chef Ramsay tells the chefs he is going to watch the food going out carefully because Melissa can only be sixteen once. Jean-Phillipe opens the doors.

Melissa’s table is the first order up for the Red team. Chef returns Christina’s attempt at a risotto. In the men’s kitchen, Chef calls for sauce on the chicken wings.

The party guests enjoy the appetizers and the kitchens move on to the entrees. Melissa gets her entrée on time, but her mother is still left waiting. The fate of this meal is in Matt’s hands.

The birthday girl stops halfway through her meal because Rosann made her beef way too rare. Melissa’s mother then returns her fish dish, which Matt has overcooked. Chef Ramsay is furious. Rosann messes up a second chance at the beef, and Chef has to take over the station to finish the guest of honor’s dinner.

Matt continues to screw up, sending Melissa’s mother’s fish out raw. Bobby forces Matt of the station to get it done.

Shayna’s slow methods are starting to catch up with her. Chef Ramsay urges her to speed up.

The two teams race to get the final dessert orders out the window, and both are able to complete the service.

Chef shows the teams a stack full of comment cards filled out by the guests. 98% of the men’s customers said they would return to Hell’s Kitchen, while the women edge them out with 99% satisfaction. Ramsay says he can’t pick a losing team based on how close the results were. He announces that the eliminations will be up to the teams tonight.

Matt heads right for his room and starts packing. He knows he’s the one going home, and the men agree. The women are torn between Rosann and Shayna.

That night, the men send Matt up for elimination and Chef Ramsay agrees with their decision. Chef asks for the ladies’ pick, and they nominate Shayna. Chef has Shayna, Rosann and Matt step forward. The three defend why they should stay in Hell’s Kitchen, but Chef Ramsay hits Matt hard. Matt argues that if he had cooked with the girls, then there would be a decline in the men’s performance. Shockingly, Chef returns Matt to the men’s team. He sends Shayna home instead, telling her that’s she’s a solid cook, but just too slow when the heat is on.

Before the chefs are sent up for the night, Chef Ramsay has one more surprise: Matt will indeed be cooking for the women’s team the next day.
