Have your family critize you on baby names?

Wild, name your child whichever you want to despite your grandma's protests. Choose the name you like it very much!! Follow your heart. Don't listen to your grandma.

I prefer to choose an unique name for my future child, not too common and boring name such as Kimberly. Barf at my name. I don't care if my parents dislike the name I choose for my child, then too bad for them!!

Name your child whatever you want. Smiles.

you are not alone... before i want to name my son Jasper Dew but my family dislike Jasper cuz it's almost like "casper the ghost" bleh.. but ended up named my son Sean Joseph

:D

I disagree with how people should influence your decisions on how to name your children. It is entirely your choice and only ur choice.

 at people who criticize over color skins and names are unhealthy. Grew up in racism town with my family (my mom's side) who don't really like black people very well. They won't allow me watch any show on TV that black people play in.
One time, I was about 11 years at that time. Happened, I saw a white woman and a black guy love each other very madly somewhere at the mall. Then I come home and told my grandma about them love each other very much. End up, she give long lecture. She said they love each other in wrong way. Make me confused and cannot figure it out why she said to me. My mind tell me love cannot be wrong. Later, my grandma told me if I marry a black man or adopt any black kid. she will disowned me. Ofc, break my heart cuz i love my grandma as my legal guardian. Confuse me big time. Raised by racists teach me hard lessons between love and rejection.
Now, I am legal adult. Have right to adopt any black kid or marrying a black. My family cannot stop me for go ahead. Let them learn how to deal with their own.
Not let racist rob ur happiness and wishes to do something that included black people. If u feel something connection to these names then go ahead. Just ingore people's judgment on names for ur future kids.

that's a very powerful speech you got there, Lasza...carry on.

Ashley Rochelle
Go with your second choice for a name...Ashley's too common. That's funny that your grandma thinks that Rochelle is a black name....to me, Ashley sounds like a very white skinny blonde girl from some uber rich suburb whose father went to Yale and whose mother is a nurse, and whose wedding got written up in the New York Times. So with those two names together....LOL.

I was thinking the exact same thing. She'd probably end up being called "Ash" by most of her friends! Hehehe!

My mother in law picked on us for naming our third son the same name as our cousin. We didn't know that our cousin has the same name before, so she suggested us to name our son "Adam" I told her no, because it sounds too similiar to my first son's name. No thanks, so we went ahead and named our third son the name we chose. Now my mother in law accepted it and moved on.

I think Adam is too common. I have many friends whose name is Adam. Is your mother-in-law religious? I find that a lot of families who name their kids Adam are following the Bible.

yeah many families do...

I'm named Daniel only because my mom likes that name...but others say it's from the bible...

and so does many names like Emily, Sarah, Andrew, Joesph, and so on...

yea i have 2nd cousins whose names are biblicial -- Jedidiah (spelling unsure cuz im going by the phonics for the spelling but im sure someone would get the idea -- mind u its not the same as "Jeremiah" as derived from the bible -- i believe its from the Book of Mormon altho im not quite sure since i dont have a copy), Harriett and some other name i cant seem to recall also biblicial or a BOM derived name -- i pity the kids tho on the name choice of their parents (my 1st cousin and his wife who incidentally happens to be a VERY devout LDS members and have bad taste in name choices but ahh) -- it was initially a shock to my mom, sister and me (*chuckles* at the reaction of eachother upon learning the names of the kids at birth announcement) along with prolly at least a few other family members but we went along with it and it takes us some time to remmy the name -- i just know those are the types of names i personally would NEVER ever choose!!!!!

 blah at whoever excepts people to use old fasioned names.. for example my most of cousins have first name starts with eric.. *rme* I wud never image if I were born a boy the I wud be eric :mad2: blah I'm only one girl who have the name erica.. at least i Hope no one name after me or they wud have to start calling me LiL erica lol cuz I'm only one short adult in family now :P at least IF i ever have kids I wud name a girl cassie.. (cuz I want a short name so I can yelll easy eh.) but I'll think of more names later on but I ain't PREGGIE anyways.. but eh I'm at this age that most of friends already have kids a little younger than I am at my age okay don't mind me if I went off topic right now

Have you ever considered foreign names?

I would like to name a foreign name for each kid... even if they are not from that country or has that country's nationality. I have thought about naming my kids with names that is a real word in another language. For example, if I have a daughter, I would name her "Kirsiakka"- cherry in Finnish. A son, "Flojo"- lazy in spanish. You get the idea ;) I think that would be cool. It gives the name a meaning behind it.

I am trying to be unconventional with names ;) I would like be one of those "cool" bohemian type of mother, lol~
