Have you ran into Jevonah Witness people?

Yes I agree also. I Love & believe in God & Jesus & everything. But I can understand how JW can pressure people into it. & I don't think that's right. JW gotta understand everyone has thier own choices to make & if they wanted to go to church & believe they know they can do that themselves.

JW people always stop by my home (PA and DC), I always put blinds close, door close, and lights off to make they tho we aint in home, haha... But in public, they always said GM, GA, or GN, so I have to be nice to them back...

They're pretty offensive to a lot of religons. I remember one tract protraying Hindus as Satanists. I think you get the idea.

Meaning of the word Jehovah

Yes I have met them before. Seriously, they re most annoying people in the world. I understand that they need to spread their gospels but they need to understand that all of us ALREADY know about bible.

I have to agree with you on that. Although, not everyone knows about the bible. Did you know that Jehovah's witness believe their orginal word for God was Jehovah, rather than God? I do find that disturbing.

Here's the url: Chick. You've prolly seen some of these around.

Ohhh yes, I've seen those! Someone distributed them on the city bus years ago when I was still living in Milwaukee. I didn't know those were the Jack Chick tracts! Of course, they went straight into the trash can.

Great job as a citizen who doesn't litter, Lucia!!:ty:

lol, lucia....i was gonna say....you're my fellow cynic and you'd never heard of chick tracts? JWs are really off their rocker.......like they believe that kids don't need "fun" ways to learn about their religion, but they push hardwood pews and dull scripture to their kids.....and they push that 24/7! they also constantly believe that the end of the world is at hand. Gotta say, at least most Mormorns are nice, and they've got a halfway interesting belief system (albliet one that sounds like it was invented by those fanasty roleplaying geeks)

Hey hey watch it! I'm a role playing geek :P. I'm a Wheel of Time fan.

Well you do have a point about the Mormon rites. LOL. I wonder what Joseph Smith would have though of your comment.

I knew one CI who was a Mormon and she never let anyone forget it. I've always thought if she was any example, they're even pushier than Southern Baptists and I grew up a Southern Baptist.

If the JWs that Reba mentioned are any example of JWs in general, I think they're even pushier than Mormons and Southern Baptists.

no i havent seen any in public.. but 3 did came to my moms home few days ago.. i told mom why u invite them in.. they r just JW and u dont believe in that. mom said no they are not JW.. they are from my church.. i was like OH sorry.. i spoke without thinking.. me duh! hehe..

It has happened to me several times.

One time, I saw a woman who looked like she was lost in the hallways on the first floor of the building I worked at. I approached her and asked her if there was anything I could help her with. She told me that she was looking for a phone. So, I led her to the nearest phone. As soon as she put down her purse, she turned to me and started preaching to me about why I should join her in her crusade of finding people to join her Jehovah's Witness church. She then handed me a pamplet. I simply gave it back to her and told her that I didn't want one. She insisted that I take it. So, I tore it up in front of her.

Another time, I was standing around at another dorm building. I saw this lady walking around handing out pamplets. I told her that I was interested, but wanted her to stand there for a few minutes while I made a phone call via relay. When I started typing away on my Sidekick, she asked me who I was calling. I told her that I was calling campus safety. She ran off. Heh!

I heard that the main reason they're so pushy is that if they "witness (or cause)" a conversion to their faith, then they're gauranteed a path to heaven. The more they convert, the higher the guarantee. Having said that, I will say it is hearsay on my behalf, and I cannot vouch for the truth of it. In any case it sounds like a load of:bsflag: to me.

I also think it is just another cult and have heard many ex Witnesses saying that as well.

...ooohhhhhh yes....

Oh yes, we've run into the JW alright. As I've mentioned elsewhere, my wife and I are learning ASL (my wife is far better than me, and she interprets the sermons and songs at our church on Sunday mornings).

Anyway, we found out recently that the local state association for the deaf was having a function at a local amusement park last week. Since it was open to the public, we thought we'd go and see if any of our deaf friends and acquaintences might be there. Also, we figured it could be good for practicing ASL.

The day at the amusement park was fun, and we did see a few of our friends and acquaintences. As we were leaving, a woman and a man walked up to my wife (I was standing back a ways with our kids), and they started signing to her. Not thinking anything about it, my wife started signing back. Apparently they asked her if she had a church, and my wife replied that we did, and that she signed at our church. The man and woman were surprised at that, because they didn't realize they were signing to a hearing person. Anyway, they never told my wife who they were, but they gave her this great big bag of videos and books and told her that she could use the videos and books at her church and to learn more sign. My wife could see that they were religious videos of some sort, and assumed that they were Christian videos. When we got in the car and my wife started to show me what they had given her (at that point my wife was thinking "Oh, how nice those people were!"), we realized every single video had "Watch Tower Society" as the producer. We knew that "Watch Tower" was the name of the JW magazine that they try to force you when you're walking along the street, so I told my wife "wait a minute, I think this stuff is all JW". Sure enough, one of the videos was about Jehova and why worship MUST include the name Jehova, otherwise it's not authentic (in other words, only their particular brand of faith is the "true faith").

JW folks have some rather strange beliefs IMHO. Due to the way their translation of the Bible reads (their Bible was translated in the 1950s), they're not allowed to accept blood transfusions (although some will use blood products like plasma). They're also not allowed to get involved in many social and political issues (makes you wonder exactly how they're living up to JC's call to be "the light and salt of the earth"). They won't serve in the military, and until recently wouldn't serve alternative military roles (reserved for conscientous objectors)--they'd just go to jail instead. Their "elders" also judge them based on how many people they witness to on a regular basis. That's why they go door to door. Their elders keep track of how many times they've witnessed, and helping others within their community is not considered a form of witnessing or ministry. So they're both extremely inwardly focused, but also coerced into going out and trying to convert strangers. They also have made a series of false predictions about the 2nd coming of God. Their most recent was in 1975. As an outsider, it's probably unfair for me to say, but it seems to me that they have basically ignored all traditions of the Church in favor of inventing a new faith in the early 1900s that their leadership calls "more faithful to the early Church". Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, I just wish they'd leave me alone once I tell them that I'm not interested, or already a Christian.

"I was at a hospital interpreting assignment where JW signers showed up to visit the Deaf consumer, uninvited. I was kind of surprised because hospital security is much stricter now about visitors. Later, I found out that a hospital staff member (a JW) let the Kingdom Hall know that a Deaf person was in the hospital, and set up the visit."

This is a blatant violation of H.I.P.P.A and is illegal this nurse needs to be reported in order to keep her from violating someone else’s privacy

When the J.W.'s come by, I just give them Christian tracts that are specific to J.W.'s. I get the very easy and clear to read Christian tracts from :

Chick Publications

Heh, I bet that went well with them. In this case, I think they deserved those tracts and i'm an atheist. :P LOL.

I think that we must respect other people's religions and therefore not make a mockery of it at all!! If you are a fanatic about your religion, thats awesome, but don't pinpoint on other religions!!

Being a hindu, I love and cherish my religion, but at the same time I have managed to broaden my knowledge on other religions, because I believe that all religions lead to the same place!! The destination is the same, but the paths are differen!!

I remember there was a massive outcry in India and South Africa, when some people put pictures of our dieties on their toilet seat covers...Seriously, we can all do better than that!! Sorry for going off the topic, moderators!!

It's just that I'm appalled by the actions of the JWs toward Reba. What happened with Reba does not appear to be an isolated case.

I'll respect most religions as long as they stay respectful of each other. I find both Jack Chick's tracts and the tactics of JWs to be very disrespectul and I'm not above making fun of things I find offensive. To my way of thinking, they deserve each other.

I also find proselytizing to be very disrespectful of other's people religons because in order to win them to your religion, you have to tell your converts that their god or their religon is the wrong one and that your religon is the only true one. The JWs' proselytizing tactics are among the most disrepectful that I've heard of.
