Intake valves or intake valve guides or seals problems. Common in 4 cylinder engines. The result of light white/blue puffs is the engine reach around 4-5K RPM, hold high rev then back off the gas pedal suddenly. I do that for smog repairs
 
Here is my 1961 Baja, with a 1641cc high performance motor, running, short pipes, no cats, no mufflers, no baffles...no emmissions whatsoever on this motor, old style points/cap distributor, high performance wires/sparkplugs and dual carbs... do you see any smoke? am I gagging in the garage?

here is another, cold start...still nothing, even when revved up to higher RPMs...

My uncle and one of my cousins worked at the raceway, My uncle was on a pit crew, my cousin built motors, so Ive learned a great deal very young on building street rods and motors ( dont like auto trans to rebuild ) love manuals !!!!
No I didnt go to school for any of this but did work in a machine shop so I know my shit as far as clearances and all that mechanical stuff ( plus alot more than you'd know ) Maybe I could teach a car shop a few tricks huh... yeah come on, lets argue that too.... amatures. lol

The raw gaseous exhaust is for old cars with carburetors. In early 1970's the air/fuel mixtures in carbs always be rich condition, CO measure around 2.5 to 4.5% compact to new car's Zero CO measure. That's what the smog instructor talks about the raw gaseous exhaust.

dont have to put a pipe through if you dont bust the case open or damage it.

yep its running in both videos and sounds pretty damn good ....

I've never been a fan of that type car but that's a badass looking vehicle.
 
I am currently looking to find an old 1950's ( 1955-1957 ) chevy truck step side, I want to build with a 4x4 platform, 350 ( possibly bored to a 383 with clearances... gonna make me a show car ( possibly daily driver as well)
ah what fun to tinker with over the winter.

I spent 6 months building that, completely stripped to bare metal, rewired, modified. My son was born and it was too small ( and unsafe to put him in ) so I traded it. I loved it, but not with a baby in it plus no ac or heat.

OMG, they don't test on exhaust gaseous sample from tailpipe. Sweet S/E inspection program.

During hot summer months you may see a little on start ups but nothing after the initial startup.
