It is clear that FJ has slandered Carl's good name.

I have known Carl for many years and he has had an impeccable reputation.

Also FJ said she/he believed that she/he heard the voice.

As matter of facts, Carl NEVER uses voice when he signs.

On the behalf of the Deaf community,
I expect an open thread apology to Dr. Carl Schroeder.
 
I've been reading through this thread. I don't mean to take the attention away from Dr. Schroeder. The fact that he is able to address the issue of hate crimes, audism, and the validity of the Deaf community to a large campus organization is inspiring.

However I need to ask a question: Is this site really for all Deaf?
 
Not really. Most of us here grew up oral deaf (or what you call "stuck between hearing and deaf world" )

I ask because this thread started with a discussion about Dr. Schroeder's lecture. He rightfully denounced audism and explained about many historical events that have served to keep the Deaf community under oppression.

However, in this thread that talks about Dr. Schroeder's inspiring message against hate there is some undue animosity. Dr. Schroeder's message was primarily aimed at the crimes that hearing people have committed against the Deaf community time and time again. After his lecture he said, “I want to empower people to discuss what hate crimes are and how they are generated.”

Therefore I want to address the animosity in this thread. It seem wrong to me that someone would be threatened and attacked just because he/she doesn't say exactly what everyone wants to hear. It seems that this person is not Deaf enough for the people here. To me that is also hate.

This is one of the ways that hate crimes continue to be generated. That's all.

I actually do apologize. I had him mixed up with someone else. I confused his blog with RML. I was completly in the wrong.

I never said he voiced. What an odd thing to assume....

Anyway, again, I do apologize. It was completly my mistake and I take full responsibility. I was wrong, and I fully admit that.
 
I experienced audism this week. I was quite offended. I had read threads about it in here but never had first hand experience. What's worse is the source was my local deaf services office. Not sure if this is typical or not. I was surprised

Tell more. What did he say to you. It does seem like people have a mission to rub it in deaf's people faces. which is why we experience it the most from people who work with the deaf.

It was a she....

She really pushed for me to get a CI. Gave me a 15 minute speech on how I need a CI so I can work and it's silly to take SSI and SSDI when I could work with a CI. And not to listen to other deafs because they are lazy and don't want to lose their SSDI. And if I don't have Insurance the State will pay for my CI......She finally stopped and I got to explain that I am not working by choice, I don't get SSDI and I couldn't qualify for it if I did want it. I just went in to learn about phone and how they work. Maybe get a list of ASL tutors.

There was a coment card at the end of the meeting. I brought it home to fill out. I won't be kind.
 
Did she really think CI would cure older adults? It may help late-deafened, but not adults who had hearing aids all their life. because my CI sounds just like my hearing aids, except some tweaks.

I am LD.... I had Meniere's. I am only in my early 40's not that old yet :lol:

I mean people who are not children.

But it seem like they don't care for ASL and deaf people should "hear" which is why they push for CI. I think Deaf people would work if people are more acceptable toward ASL.
