GPS/ GOOGLE MAPS on any devices..

I bet Sidekick won't make it unless they have developed Sidekick4. If they do have video and all those drool'n feature. It won't budge me to buy it. I'll go for Blackberry ROFL. I would love to show Tmobile how we feel about Danger not trying hard enuf to give us GPS.. Check this out on Youtube. Tmobile Sidekick Smackdown!!

That sidekick 2 sure is rock hard. It didn't break at the first try.

I like this map and i have no problem while I move from state to state. No problem and found new home

I am curious about that GPRS that has GPS? I am curious about this part because I know several device already have GPS Map, I wonder is that possible to find program?

ideafspy, please you pardon me?
I am honest with you, I am not knowledge about GPS. It is my first time google map on my bb since I was sidekick for 5 years. *
I am still learning gps, maps run on high tech device.

but here neo and deafclmib answered your questions already. Whew! Ha ;)

don't you have BB maps?? as it's alot better than the google maps...
~via BB~Canuckian_Chick

No, I did not give a try BB maps, but my wonderful friend like brother, he did try a bb maps on his wife's bb. result, he and his wife warned me, dont download it. because they dislike it either. I gave them yahoo map link for their a try after i told them that I use yahoo maps. they love yahoo maps. I did try google maps. google maps blew yahoo maps / bb maps out of the water! tell you the truth! no bogus.. ;)

Oh I didn't this post till later ... yeah true.. BB maps is good for around the area as I like the directions on front of me.. simply it's always one good over the other as I have both on my BB device I love it!!!

...Might be, Someday I will give bb map a TRY on curve, because RIM give a free apps bb maps on curve after I purchase it. :thumb:

Catty, Yeah.. who knows. SK4 might have Google maps run on. danger's own browser would be more diffcult soo slow load as take forever until tomorrow, load is completed.. ahh.. What the more, sady, Danger forbid sidekick users load the apps from internet for sk, use danger's own apps are SUCK and USELESS..

I bet that Danger will cost sidekick users who want to load the apps of google maps, the dangeous cows gonna eat sk users' green gra$$. ha.

Yup! Go figures. SK's processor runs like peewee riding on tricycle on HWY while car whizzing by at 80mph. Download from Packaging is limited. Sometime I checked Download Packaging to see if they have MSN messager coming up for SK2, Never!! I knew it would'nt have enuf speed to run it. Owned SK for 4 years (First time B/W SK, then Color SK then SK2). I've had enuf!! Since that there are alot improvement on technology. I would go for one that have GPS or GoogleMap downloadable and be able to use it (like BB). Be sure it have Mini or Micro SD flash memory slot to use to allow more space for apps. GPS and GoogleMap or any maps will become commonplace on every PDA's and Cell.

I agree that IF Danger finally include GPS and GoogleMap. It'll be slow and also cost$$$'s for SK to download and use. Even if it already include SK4 (IF IF IF they come out), it'll be costly options. Forget it! LOL

Catty, Ha Ha Ha. That's so Funny! Anyway, Me too, I was used original sidekick white and black screen, CSK, SK2, MR Cartoon LE, SK3. but NOW I am BB user.

Yes, that's true I make sure CURVE has extra SD memory slot to use to allow more space for apps and pictures also. But thanks for remind me.

Catty, LOL! I agree with your post. True, true, If SK4 do still have same issues like SK3. Forget it. I would pick high tech device like tmobile wing, other pda capable with GPS/ G-Maps running high speed wireless like EDGE, 3G, others.

Though, SK is great package out of box like with Instant messenger programs, Email, etc. One neg that SK had lack of feature GPS, EDGE, ETC.. SK is great for Newbies/ beginners. :)

Yup, BB Curve does have memory slot. So it's a wonderful news. So you can store info in it. IT's now a must have item. IF Google map take up space on BB, then You can move it to expanded memory. (It's my guess. I wish I had a hand on to play with it..)

care to explain a reason ? i know there are pros and cons about that, but i would like to see what your opinions are. thanks.

I thought you knew it since you are mobile freak.

Well here a info. Drain battery life so quick.

Radio+GPS+lightback+speaker =kill battery so quick it take around 1-4 hours. That's why mobile with GPS are not popular.

That why bluetooth GPS are more popular now days since it have it own battery pack and you can pretty much use any GPS software with it.
Even Google map satelite photos etc.

My treo700 already have google map satellite photo.

Bluetooth drain battery life too.

I leave bluetooth on and battery life is around 7-8hours and I disable bluetooth then battery life is around 2-3 days.

Bluetooth is very slower than USB. My friend use bluetooth to his mobile to laptop for modem and I told him try to use usb so he noticed usb is more quick than bluetooth for internet speed and files tranf. I knew wires always faster than wireless.

You can always get around using 12v Cigarette charger to keep phone w/ GPS charged. Or carry 12v Gel lawntractor battery w/ cig plug in ur backpack and plug it to device as well if you are walking in the city.. Last you ALLL DAAAYYYY   . or Use 12v to 120v 150watt inverter and use charger plug for device too. Be creative to get around battery limitation.

There's plenty ways to keep em charged. I use my laptop while I rode during long trip. I use 350w inverter for my laptop to plug in to so I can use it while it charges battery.

So there's no worry about limitation on GPS usage.

IT's not neccessary be the battery issue. There's always way around. Ever wonder why stores sell battery charging pack to recharge mobile (radio shack sell one that use 4 or 6 AA batteries (regular or rechargeable) to recharge mobile battery). Or if you are in car, plug it in 12vdc or use 120v 150watt 12v to 120v inverter for charger to plug in. Also there's solar panel use for recharging mobile battery too. So Go online and browse around (Google search). You might find it intruging.

I have a habit bringing charger with me when I go on a trip.

Some Cellular company sell heavy duty or "fattened up" battery pack for mobile. I've seen biz user had "fatten up" battery pack in their cellular phone. It is heavy. It may cost $$ but worth the usage for GPS.

yes everyone knows there are other ways to reduce the battery from draining like having backup battery or charging stuffs, but he has a valid point that the battery does drain quickly especially the bluetooth connection. that is all.

Yup, I'm aware of it. Hopefully, they will work on chipsets that save batteries while using GPS. Display screen is one of power hog. Newer display are coming out such as OLED, ELD ect for mobile which do not use much power. GPS Radio use power to receive signal from satellite or Cellular network tower. They are working on combining chipset into one using different materials that use less power and more sensitive to signal. It may be culprit if strong EM force interfere it's signal. That's why they are researching for improvement.

OLED is short life than LCD.

Thank you. That's what I try to tell same thing to Catty.

OLED is short life than LCD.

Yes, OLED have short life (approx 10k to 20k hours). That's not enuf to last a year. Display need to last more than 50k hours. They're working on coating to prevent erosion and decay (been a year). ELD would be the best display.

Some customer insist that they want to stick with GPS anyway regardless battery limitation. AT T (cingular) sells extra battery for $40. I'm sure they wouldn't care to purchase extra pack of battery to keep GPS running. Remember there are plenty inept people out there.

Personally, I don't REALLY need GPS but Google Map (W/ satellite photo) would be very Niice! Cuz I'm great with map. My SK2 can run Google map on browser but not Satellite photo... Pretty quick than Mapquest.

I almost had GPS system built into my Jeep Liberty Limited when I had negotation w/ dealer. But realizing the price $1,500 (GPS, SIRRUS, 6 CD changer, AM/FM radio all in one). I dropped it and go for pre-installed 6 CD changer. Later I realized that I don't need GPS anyway. Several friends of mine who is a map dummy wanted GPS so bad. I told them of GPS on BB and other PDA that are compatible. They became so interested. I would adivse them if they're driving, have em plugged into the 12v cig lighter. LOL

Catty

One other thing you need to ask your carrier or cell provider about GPS in phone if they are enabled by default becasue most of them have GPS disabled and charge like extra 9 dollar a month to enable GPS chip in your phone on top of your phone plan.

And some phones GPS are tower based GPS not using satellite but using cell towers to traingle your postion which is poorer than sateille postion.

Also with bluetooth GPS higher price the more satellite it will receive more pinpoint of your location ie all "12 satellite" to make your location more accurate. And you can use about any GPS map software with it. Some phone GPS are limited to built in carrier GPS map software.

Yes Bluetooth can drain a battery faster but when your using GPS in a car you would put your phone in a crandle and power it to the cig lighter and with bluetooth GPS there is no worry of monthly fee or limitations which software etc.

They run for about 50-150 Here a few example of them and they are very small box like your keychain car door lock/unlock size - Bluetooth GPS and lots of places offer free phone crandle with a purchase of bluetooth GPS

I thought that a bluetooth is for a wireless. It contacts to other PDA or to the computer without using the wire. You mean that the bluetooth contacts a GPS device?

I thought that a bluetooth is for a wireless. It contacts to other PDA or to the computer without using the wire. You mean that the bluetooth contacts a GPS device?

Bluetooth is wireless and a Bluetooth GPS receive information from satellites and connects to a PDA/Smartphones wireless and sending your location information becasue many PDA/Smartphones GPS are disable/turn off or cost extra to enable/turn on so you buy GPS seperately and use it instead of built in PDA/Smartphones.

You would put Bluetooth GPS in your shirt pocket or on your car dashboard etc.

Some PDA or Smartphone does not even have GPS but use radio tower for location trainglation and people think it is "GPS" but not true so that why Bluetooth GPS are avaiable for PDA/Smartphones.

Radio Tower Trainglation only work if your within range of raido towers and once your outside of range then it worthless.

Bluetooth GPS uses satellites to pinpoint your location and uses it own internal battery not PDA or Smartphone battery.
