A job posting over at Danger shows that they are looking to include GPS functionality in an upcoming device. Don't expect this to be included like the new Sidekick-killer Helio Ocean, but rather the implementation seems to be via Bluetooth. The posting is for an intern and reads, "Formalize the Java Native Interface and glue layer for binding the BT serial support as a GPS provider of data." While the Sidekick 3 has been out for 11 months now, it seems a bit lackluster in terms of features when compared to some of the newest phones like the Ocean, Wing, and N95. GPS is one of the many features we'd like to see on the newest release of one of our favorite phones. Now if Helio would just fix a couple bugs…Helio OTA! Helio OTA! Helio OTA!

I am not going to buy danger's words! For long time ago, danger told sidekick users with promises that Gps will work on sk . they never did.. Because they knew Sidekick doesn't run on EDGE and not support Javascript.

anyway, I am glad that GPS maps, Yahoo maps or Google maps are fully capable on my BB.. also other pda like treo, on and on.... :)

I have google maps on my at&t 8525 and it works pretty nicely. its a cool application!

seq, oh yeah! Google map is great on my bb. its for freee, wow that's nice! Plus Its useful tools! In my own opinion: Goople map apps is better than BB map apps. I can navigate over the world map in goole on my device, if I am travel in canada or europe.

No need to buy USA/ World map from store or gas station.

Google map on any PDA device is worth tool!

:)

I am curious about that GPRS that has GPS? I am curious about this part because I know several device already have GPS Map, I wonder is that possible to find program? :)

GPRS is type of speed under GSM network wireless. GPS is not work with GSM. GPS is for satellite only.

Info is mistake. SK3 don't use GPS because there is no GPS receivers.

Sk3 use GPRS network wireless as map.

GPS is not work good if you are at big city due tall build block/jam gps receivers from satellite.

Network wireless with map is not always 100% work in anywhere if no coverage.

Network wireless with maps is good idea for big city and GPS is good idea for small city and anywhere in world unlike network wireless.

since neo's statement, i think i understand what you have question, ideafspy.

neo is right about GPRS that is GSM network. GPRS is a slow cellular system. GPRS has nothing to do with GPS. GPS is a satellite based navigation system. GPS determites the locations when GPS receives the navigational signals from one of 27 satellites. GPS is free to everyone in the world - no charge or no set up fee.

Oh I didn't this post till later ... yeah true.. BB maps is good for around the area as I like the directions on front of me.. simply it's always one good over the other as I have both on my BB device I love it!!!

I'm very directionally challenged, and my work requires me to travel a lot to new places, so I'm very interested in GPS systems. My one problem is, none of them are up to date enough, and they only offer on route for each destination.

Our area is developing and growing quickly. The GPS, Google, Yahoo, etc., maps don't show all the new roads and addresses. They seem to be at least four years behind.

When I checked the directions for a couple locations that I am familiar with, the directions they showed took all the side and back streets instead of the quicker direct interstate routes.

I very much want portable GPS but unless they provide one with current directions and alternate routes, I guess I'll have to depend on drawing my own maps.

Or do you know about any new GPS that have solved those problems?

I think that most latest GPS has PC connection support, that allow you to update the firmwire to expands more roads when latest development are coming.

how is about Garmin nuvi 660 ? my wife has it for her interpreter jobs. she loves it very much. it talks to u whenever there is bad traffic on roads and it can assist you to detour yourself. i know two other interpreters in atlanta have same type as my wife has. it is not cheap but it is worth to have it for the jobs. it costed 700 bucks from online shop includes 4 yrs warranty. it is the best investment in my opinion.

I bet Sidekick won't make it unless they have developed Sidekick4. If they do have video and all those drool'n feature. It won't budge me to buy it. I'll go for Blackberry ROFL. I would love to show Tmobile how we feel about Danger not trying hard enuf to give us GPS.. Check this out on Youtube. Tmobile Sidekick Smackdown!!
