GOP spends $150,000 for Palin's wardrobe

Well, Palin and her husband made something like 166K last year while Obama made around 4 million. Just putting that in perspective.....

That may be true, but the Palin's total assets (mutual funds and property) for 2007 were between $880,000 and $2.1 million.

When you add up Sarah Palin's yearly income and assets, it amounts to over $2 million.

So...the income difference between Obama and Palin isn't as significant as it would be if Palin didn't have the assets she does.

Yeah, assets which aren't to be touched until age 59 1/2 on pain of a severe tax hit. And who knows how much of those assets have dwindled in the wake of the recent market activity?

Given the Palin's combined yearly income, they can afford to pay an extra 10% penalty in taxes.

What are you saying? That she should take money from her assets, be penalized for early withdrawl on top of their already being dwindled down because of the gyrating stock market and then buy her own clothes for the campaign?

That's *exactly* what I'm saying. If she wants to be a representative for all of the "hockey moms" in the U.S., it's about time she start acting like one. Perhaps in doing so, that would teach her a lesson about what it's like to be middle class. :D

Like I said...there is the thrift store or Sears catalog to choose her outfits from. There are some nice suits there. :D

I agree. :) People can do whatever they want with their money, but IMO there's absolutely no reason why someone needs to spend $300,000 on a dress.

I have to admit that the visual of Sarah Palin at a Goodwill store makes me chuckle. It just doesn't fit.

She IS middle class. They make 166K yearly, not counting assets while Obama makes 4 mil a year, not counting assets. I find it absurd you are suggesting she, who worked hard to get there, deserved it, should take money for retirement years, money that has been depleted by the stock market, take a Federal hit for early withdrawl to buy some clothes for the campaign. Do I hear cradle to the grave socialism in the offing, do I hear petty jealousy, etc?

Those clothes could easily be sent to a resale shop, the profits of which could benefit a wide range of charities and most probably recoup most of the money as those clothes would be highly sought after vs taking a tax deduction, saving a paltry sum (maybe 20K, I don't know).

In the meantime, the election is nigh upon us and we haven't really talked a whole lot about the real issues. But there's just no question Obama's gonna win, having bought the election, basically fair and square, having outspent the other guy 8 to 1, something like that or at or near a billion bucks. Even if it is a landslide for him, a lot of folks forget that the rest of the country comprises at least near half of the "other side". I see dark clouds ahead no matter who wins.

Why do Republicans always play the "socialism card" every time a Democrat says something they disagree with? Believe me, it gets old -- real fast. And me, jealous? Not in the least. In fact, I'm of the opinion that money doesn't buy happiness. Too bad for Sarah that her "flashy" wardrobe won't get her elected as Vice-President. All of that money gone to waste... And who's to say it will really go to charity? The McCain campaign can say anything they want to please voters, but when the election ends, I have a feeling that Palin won't be returning any of those clothes.

As Shel said, that $150K could have been better spent to feed the homeless -- not on a Vice-Presidential candidate.

And the fact that Obama made more money during the election is *his* fault? Next thing you know, McCain supporters will be blaming his defeat on Obama's campaign spending. In the world of politics, whoever raises the most money usually receives the most votes. As for the "other side," the latest polls show Obama leading McCain 53% to 41%. In regards to the future, I feel nothing but optimism about Obama's ability to lead this country and change government in order to make it better. In fact, I feel another Bill Clinton era economy coming on...
