She IS middle class. They make 166K yearly, not counting assets while Obama makes 4 mil a year, not counting assets. I find it absurd you are suggesting she, who worked hard to get there, deserved it, should take money for retirement years, money that has been depleted by the stock market, take a Federal hit for early withdrawl to buy some clothes for the campaign. Do I hear cradle to the grave socialism in the offing, do I hear petty jealousy, etc?
Why do Republicans always play the "socialism card" every time a Democrat says something they disagree with? Believe me, it gets old -- real fast. And me, jealous? Not in the least. In fact, I'm of the opinion that money doesn't buy happiness. Too bad for Sarah that her "flashy" wardrobe won't get her elected as Vice-President. All of that money gone to waste... And who's to say it will really go to charity? The McCain campaign can say anything they want to please voters, but when the election ends, I have a feeling that Palin won't be returning any of those clothes.
Those clothes could easily be sent to a resale shop, the profits of which could benefit a wide range of charities and most probably recoup most of the money as those clothes would be highly sought after vs taking a tax deduction, saving a paltry sum (maybe 20K, I don't know).
As Shel said, that $150K could have been better spent to feed the homeless -- not on a Vice-Presidential candidate.
In the meantime, the election is nigh upon us and we haven't really talked a whole lot about the real issues. But there's just no question Obama's gonna win, having bought the election, basically fair and square, having outspent the other guy 8 to 1, something like that or at or near a billion bucks. Even if it is a landslide for him, a lot of folks forget that the rest of the country comprises at least near half of the "other side". I see dark clouds ahead no matter who wins.
And the fact that Obama made more money during the election is *his* fault? Next thing you know, McCain supporters will be blaming his defeat on Obama's campaign spending. In the world of politics, whoever raises the most money usually receives the most votes. As for the "other side," the latest polls show Obama leading McCain 53% to 41%. In regards to the future, I feel nothing but optimism about Obama's ability to lead this country and change government in order to make it better. In fact, I feel another Bill Clinton era economy coming on...
