It takes about 1-2 weeks to get used to a BlackBerry thumb keyboard if you are a Sidekick keyboard user.
I am a fast thumb touchtypist (72.4 words per minute, 363 button keypresses per minute, in a 60 second span). There are some thumb touch typing instructions at:
The BlackBerry Thumb Touch Typist Guide
(Type without looking!)
If you want to get a BlackBerry with a good brighter screen, a good keyboard, and the longest battery life, I recommend the Model 7290. The Cingular 7290 has a much brighter screen than the dim T-Mobile 7230. (If you can wait 1 month until T-Mobile releases the 7290, then you can get the 7290 on T-Mobile too)
There are so many BlackBerries to choose from, so it can get confusing
