Gas Prices to JUMP!

All this blame goes towards BILL CLINTON! You see, If you voters would had voted for bob dole none of this would had happen. And if our stupid parents wouldve voted for barry goldwater all them boys would been fathers uncles by now instead they died in the vietnam. Plus all this high taxes,Abortion, Afirmation Action and forced bussing wouldnt been taken place. And because our parents voted for stupidty Castro and charlie manson are still alive. So if democrats simply block bushs energy bill drilling oil in alaska use common sence """ VOTE REPUBLICAN"""

What´s the wrong with bicycle or walk when there´re not far away. It´s sense to save gas....

I ride with my bicycle 5 km (3 miles) to town to get small foods. I would not drive to town to get little things but bicycle..... I also walk 3 miles to town, too. It´s healthy...

When California hits $3 a gallon expect a republican party to win in california and take control in california since the early 50s Remember california energy crises rolling blackouts and high electric bills 2 years ago? Not only it cost gray davis his job bt that was the hammer to californias democratic party. This time its gonna be the stake to the heart of california democratic partry and the republicans are gonna take over. And both diane feinstein and maxine waters could both lose their jobs if they dont vote to approve drilling in alaska. And californians see gas rise above $3 a gallon. Democrats better start listening to the people unlike tom daschile didnt listened to us or theyre be out of the job as well.

I'll repeat myself here, RS, actually the price of gas has nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans. It all has to do with the oil and gas companies around the world, namely those in the Middle East. They are "for profit only" and they will keep increasing the gas prices as long as they can get away with it. Think about it. GWB is in office right now, he's been in office since 2000 and the gas prices have gone up steadily ever since. He's done nothing to bring down the prices.
Explan why governor gray davis was recalled?

For Canadians/usa Ppl..

Great News...
I've found the gas price listing quote.. where you can find nearest your area and drink it up cheaper gas fare cost... than expensive cost gas price range.

Here's..
THE ALL CANADIAN AUTOMOTIVE DIRECTORY :fingersx:

Edit: There have usa states.. *click where you living at*

Gas this past weekend in Nashville was $185.9 a gallon. It is $199.9 here this morning. The dealer tells me it will go up again Thursday. This is the cheap low octane stuff.

Average gas price is like $2.10 here in Seattle area, looks like we'll be hitting record high levels compared to last year peak. It's too early to see price going that high!

Well if democrats dont cooperate with the republicans and vote for ANWAR theyre be facing the voters in 2006 election.

When I lived in CT, I used to walk to school, to work, to the laundrymat, to the library, to the store, the beach, ice skating pond, my friends' houses, the movies, etc. There were local buses and commuter trains if we had to go further.

But here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina nothing is nearby unless a person lives in downtown Charleston, and there are no local buses. :(
Most of my jobs are at least 18 miles away. My hubby's business requires him to drive a huge heavy van over a three-county area, so no way to save gas that way.

The high prices are bad enough. I just don't want to ever again see gas shortages like we did during the Carter administration. What a nightmare! Waiting in gas lines, odd/even gas days, etc. Ugh!

I dodged the bullet on that one. I filled both of my two 500 gallon gas tanks before the shortage and increase hit. I rode it out at the lower prices, but cut my traveling like everyone else. Thank goodness the travel cuts helped my business as more people chose to vacation at home. I still have my "OPEC Killer" stock certificates somewhere. This was a grassroots farmer initiative to produce gasohol. When the supplies relaxed, gasohol died along with the push for solar and methane power. Solar is finally coming back big time. A 500,000 megawat solar farm is being test run right now I think.

If Long Gas lines happen again bush will be the blame and Hillary becomes president. Remember who was the last president to be blamed because of oil shortage? Jimmy Carter !!! As th Result Ronald reagan became president.

We lived in base housing on a Naval Air Station at the time, so they kind of frowned on that in our 'hood. ;)

i remembered in 1997 the gas prices are 79 cents per gal.. 1998 gas price are 96 cents per gal.. now its almost 2 dollars more *thud*

EDIT: now with new minnesota Toll system is on the raise this summer :jaw: from 25 cents to $8 .. gosh.. thank god i live out of cities or else i'll face finincial crisis

Drop tank lawn ornaments would be cool! :laugh2:

Well, once again it seems that a brief history lesson is in order. Class! Sit up straight in your chairs and take notes! Young man! Is that gum in your mouth?

U.S. oil consumption was high in the early 1970’s, while U.S. oil production declined
In 1973, 36% of energy consumption was in foreign oil, while in 1970 it had been 22%
The Nixon administration was in office, the Watergate scandal was at its height in 1973, providing limited strength in policy formulation, and little potential for an effective response to the oil embargo
Arab-Israeli conflicts had already produced a growing tension between U.S. and Arab countries
The OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) cartel led to rising gas prices in early 1970's

As many people will remember, 1973 brought widespread panic to the nation, with the onset of an international oil embargo. Middle Eastern countries,

wrought with long standing religious and political conflict, cut off exports of petroleum to many Western Nations, including the United States and the

Netherlands, in anger over their involvement in the Arab-Israeli conflicts. The resounding impact in the United States of this embargo was compounded

by weak national policies on energy issues, as well as generally high consumption levels and panic-stricken investors. Therefore, oil prices

skyrocketed, the term “Mideast Oil Crisis” was born, and the effects gained momentum. Lines at gas stations increased, and people were quick to blame

the government, the gas companies, the Arabs, and the embargo in general. Clearly though, many more forces were involved with the resulting “crisis” in the United States.

*Imports of oil to the U.S. dropped from 6 million in September 1973 to 5 million in subsequent months

*By December 1973, the price per barrel rose 130%

*Nov. 27, 1973 Nixon signed the Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act, embracing government regulation

*'Project Independence' was created in hopes of freeing the U.S. completely from foreign oil dependence by 1980

*The Federal Energy Office was created in December of 1973, as part of the Executive Office of the President, gaining responsibility over fuel allocation, rationing, prices, and 'Project Independence'

*The embargo itself lasted six months, ending on March 18, 1974
Ford assumes presidency in 1974 during a period of great tension surrounding Watergate

*The Federal Energy Administration was created in June of 1974

What Were The Causes?
Many people believe that consumption was the root cause of the energy crisis

The crisis was essentially one of control: the result of over-consumption on top of flawed energy policies.

U.S. policy flaws were recognized as a major cause of the crisis
The Arab oil embargo alone was not the cause

And the Effects...
U.S. attitudes toward the sources of energy changed drastically

Similarly, an incredible anxiety toward the supply of natural resources grew in the United States

Such national fear of the dependence on foreign oil resulted in the federal approval of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 1973, in order to capitalize on domestic oil

Prices for gas rose significantly, longer lines appeared at the filling stations, and fear of OPEC’s control over the economy grew quickly

Gas stations shut down because of shortages

Gas “eating” cars became undesirable, and many Americans turned to buy smaller European and Japanese cars

Carpooling and mass transit became popular topics

Cheap imported oil was recognized as vulnerable and oil in general was acknowledged as unrenewable

Market forces as well as government intervention resolved the crisis

People began to consider the causes of environmental degradation and not just the effects

Long term scarcity instilled questioning of resource exploitation

New Policies and Changing Ideas

Oil price decontrol became a central policy issue

A major debate was born, should the government control production and consumption or should the market forces take over?

Carter administration takes a new perspective and emphasizes deregulation of the energy idustry

Carter moved the nation to a greater understanding of energy problems
But foreign dependency on oil was still increasing, domestic production decreasing, and fuel costs were still high

1974 (after Nixon resigned) Congress passed the Geothermal Energy Research, Development and Demonstration Act , as well as the Solar Heating and Cooling Demonstration Act

Carter also passed the Solar Energy Research, Development, and Demonstration Act and Federal Non-Nuclear Energy Research and Development Act

National Energy Act was passed in 1978, including conservation incentives and taxes, and limits for the use of oil and gas in electrical generation

Natural Gas Policy Act passed soon after, giving the government a stronger role in regulation, and also raising prices of natural gas

Department of Energy created in 1977 to bring cabinet-level order to divided efforts

Carter suggests less driving, and less use of heat

Carter also called for a tax to help subsidize mass transit, and support energy assistance funds (Windfall Tax Act of 1980)

Now, do you understand better? Good. You can bet you @$$ there is a big test coming up soon!

Knoxville's pretty slightly cheaper at 1.89 this morning but I aint holding my breath for gas prices to go down yet....

I just noticed something, in this morning's USA Today Business section, that oil brokers and speculators could possibly be the reason for our latest gas price troubles not to mention demand for oil in other countries especially China.

SEE I KNEW IT!!! SUVS are the blame.. Why isnt Congress introducing 30%TAX on all vechiles weigh over 7000LBS? Means you will pay extra taxes at the dealer when you buy an SUV. You pay NO TAX if you buy smaller cars. And You registration fee adds up 30% MORE If you Drive a SUV. Start taxing the SUV owners and that will elimiate the gas tax.
