I agree that the gas prices are ridiculous these days. That's why I'm thinking my next car is going to be a hybrid.
TrippLA said:We don't need homemade lunches, only 99.8% students buy school lunches and lunches at fast food but school lunches are $3 with soda, deli is little cheaper, just like $2.50 with soda. I always buy lunches at fast food after school is out at 1:30 everyday except on Monday and Wednesday since it get out at 2:15. Well, It's your decide if you love homemade lunches then bring it everyday but not force to people that want follow as you said.
No way, I hate manual car because my hand will be action alot, no relax... I just prefer to own automatic car, because too easier and good control. Of course, America are different because they love automatic car but we don't want follow their Europe culture. Some automatic cars save more gas than manual cars, not joking.
Neo said:Not my brother. He still homemade lunch for high school. Not all school are same price for lunch. I think he pay around $5 for lunch.
You dont know that all america truck-semi use manual? Manual is easy as automatic. Manual is much better control than automatic during bad weather like 3 inchs snows. Yes I already test both of them and I like manual because I keep gear low and easy for bad weather. Automatic is awful and it keep change gears itself when I drive snow between 1 inchs to 3 inchs snow.
You dont need to worry because you live in CA almost no snow.
Neo said:Hmm. I live near Chicago. I have two jobs. 1st I work for Canon as Tech Line Coordinator in 6 years and 2nd job just short on/off/on/off whatever they need me for repair Computer. I pay $50 per week. My workplace is 40 miles away from my home. I will move to place later since workplace moved far away for bigger build last year.
You know? Europe is not really GREAT system for support deaf people for jobs and SSI.
I dont understand most american people spend lot money for fast food in everyday during work day. Why not bring homemake for lunch and dinner. That save lot money than fast food. Why they have BIG SUV/truck and they kill gas. I noticed many people dont know how to use manaul so they use automatic but automatic almost $1k more than manual for car. Manual save your gas. Most Europe dont have automatic cars.
TrippLA said:1) Ouch... $5 is too much, that worse than McDonald's for tastes.
2) I think that most American trucks are using both of them but automatic are optional, I had rode on F-150 with automatic. I just drive so well in bad weather like alot of rain and wind. Rain is rare in CA but only rain for 15 days per year. Some houses are fell down due on mudslide but house insurance are paying for them to rebuild, unlike in Florida.
3) Yea, snows are too rare in CA.
Neo said:2) - I talk about Truck SEMI. Not truck.
yelling at gas companies is okay to do that.. for example call the headquarters the customer service.. it isn't an harrasment. its an express of how customers feel ;-)nozobo said:Here in Colorful Colorado.... Let me think which should I do?
1. pay for my car's gas
2. yell at the clerk for high price
3. drive off without paying gas
for #2 you can get ticketed for harassment the clerk since they has nothing to do with the gas prices... for #3 driving off without paying gas will get you ticketed, losing your license and jail time!
SO therefore it's alot cheaper to pay gas than going one of those #2 or #3... beside we're lucky than alot of other countries... we pay by gallon and most countries pay by liters... so think about it!

*Sigh* I guess I have to keep reminding everybody.
I keep seeing how the blame game is in full swing with most of it going against either Bush or the Oil Companies. I wish it were so simple. Gasoline prices in the US is complicated and not something the average Joe easily understands...hence all these kinds of stories about bashing the convenience stores, cashiers and the ilk.
If you are going to blame Bush, then you need to blame every president all the way back to Carter at least (when the first crisis hit us). None of these guys were able to come up with a comprehensive plan that bespoke of an intelligent energy policy to "ween" us off of this vicious dependency we have with oil. Some tried but look where we are now...no better than Carter's time other than some improvements like MPH efficiency figures plus energy efficencies in general (like we are using about the same amount of oil for the past decade proportionally speaking). Fortunately, we are starting to see significant investments in alternatives but this all takes time.
If you are going to blame the oil companies, then you might make a better case but...there are external factors to consider. Who sets the energy policies? The gov't of course (now you can see this goes in circles). What kind of economic system do we have? Well, one that is oriented to a free market system with the prices being determined by supply and demand. Who decides what vehicles we drive? The last I checked that is by personal choice and nobody has a gun to their head saying buy this!
All of this is at the tip of the iceberg and would take a very long post to bring all this out. So, the point is we as a country need a coherent national energy policy to decrease our energy consumption especially from cars more than anything else. This may mean sacrificing the freedom of vehicles to have more options with mass transit. I can see this causes most people some pause as there are major implications here. The average Joe is just as much to blame because they vote with their feet and he says I ain't giving up my car(s). So, he doesn't vote for politicians that have great ideas about energy conservation because it may inconvenience him!!!
We even voted not to open up more oil producing regions in the US like Alaska or offshore because of pollution and/or tourism concerns. So, what is more important here? If protecting the environment and tourism concerns are more important, then we need to shut up about the price of gas and just get with developing the alternatives!!!
Last thing, Europe has a more intelligent policy and that is why they have much higher prices for gasoline. They tax it to death so people will take mass transit.
My caveat is "Be careful what you ask for and you may get it!"

at least some gas companies such as Superamerica, Speedway offers rewards every time u shop there and fill gas.. like when ur points reach that level u get .50 off per gal for up to 25 gallons.
other places.. cubfoods they give you 1 cents off per gal every $10 of food u buy... so buying $100 worth of food.. u get 10 cents off per gal..
some places don't offer those rewards.. meaning they don't care about customers.. again making customers happy the better business they'll made
TrippLA said:Bush is liar because oil companies aren't largest problem but several countries have cheap gas prices than USA and that's not fair.
