Gas Cap?

Interestly, In California, any vehicles on this state must have gas caps for emission and safety reasons. If the gary marketed vehicles (refers to imported vehicles) brought in for smog check, are subject to refering to the REFEREE CENTER to inspect the emissions to see if they meet the California's stringent emission. I don't test on the gary marketed vehicle unless the BAR label stamped on the door jamb. (BAR= Bureau of Automotive Repair)
Maybe the capless fuel systems will be here in the future?

Vampy, If you happen to be in California for vacation and if they require you to put cap on. Just go to hardware store and buy big cork and cork it. Bring corkscrew tool in case if you need to pull cork out just like the way you do on cork of wine bottle :rofl2:

Yeah, I remember seeing cars like that when I was a kid.

Reminds me of National Lampoon's Vacation when Clark got a new station wagon. When he pulled into a gas station and looked for the gas cap, he thought it was the license plate. So, he pulled it hard and ripped it off. Oops!

My brother used to have that car with gas cap behind license plate, it's 1964 Chevrolet Impala given by my grandmother when she died. You must remember to put gas cap back on or else if you don't, gas will pour out of guzzle hole when you accelerate and make you wonder why gas guage is going down pretty quickly every time you accelerate.

Yes it snaps like mousetrap but it's not strong tho.

Everytime, I notice the gas caps on the German vehicles such as MBZs, BMWs, Audies/VWs/Porsches, are on right side as they stop for gas or smog checks.

I noticed a Jag had the gas cap on the "hip" (driver's side, upper rear fender, facing up) of the car.

Yes, I cannot quite blame the state. Have you seen how people drive over there? :giggle:

I went to NJ and also couple of Eastern states where there are a law that Attendants fill the gas for you. I pulled up to gas station and I took out the hose and put it in guzzle hole and tried to figure out how to turn on the pump. Immediately, the Attendant came and told me not to do that. I told him that I usually fill gas myself all the time. He said not here in this State. We fill it up for you. Oh ok then I went back in the truck and he turned on the pump. I realized that I should have tilt the metal lever sideway where the filler hose parks. I saw the sign "Full Service". But on that same state, there are several gas station about mile away are "Self Service". Now that I know what to do. Seriously, I did have pissed Attendant in NJ and I just let him do it and just pay him for filling up the gas. What can we do!!

the attendant has to swipe his access card to activate the pump first

Passenger side. And I don't waste time behind all you in line on the wrong side of the pumps.

:laugh2: so true! lanes for right-side gas tank are usually always free on rest area gas station. my motorcycle is right-side. always free lane for me whenever I pull into gas station! I chuckle at mile-long lane for left-side.

yep. Dual gas cap flips on some older Jaguars, the cap on the top is fixed, open it with the ignition key. Weird.

I smogged a 2003 Mini Cooper S today, saw the gas cap is on left side. This Cooper is made in Germany, that suppose to be on right side.

safety reason. NJ's obsessed with safety crap
What?

Oh man, these full sevices were used to be in the old days in Australia but nowadays, there are no longer required, but in NJ!? .......
