Check your local VR (Deptartment of Rehabilition) to see if you can get some assistance for your college tutition once you are accepted by Galludent.

And what competition?? at Galludent? Please. (no offense to Gally but anybody who got some degree of deafness can get in). You said you are HoH-- no problem. Ask for a represenative or a brochure from them and they will be all over you. Hearing students do have undergone some tests (ASL level, et cetera) and their reasons for attending Galludent.
If you already are in a community college-- even better chance for you since they see that you have experienced some college therefore you won't be a lost cause (like many others at Gally  )

Took me 3 years to get them off my back since I already picked my college (and ATTENDED) and their haggling me became moot.

Bottom line: have you tried to apply Gally? If not-- it won't hurt to try. :)

Does Gallaudet ever have any seminars on ASL or anything like that? I'm already out of college & working otherwise I'd apply. But I'd love to at least take a class there or a seminar. I guess I could write to them & ask.

I'm with ya Tagumi! Anyone who has read any of my postings lately will see "Gallaudet this and Gallaudet that". They are probably sick of hearing me mention it but it is such a great place so close to DC. I would do anything to be able to get a Communications degree or Deaf Studies degree from there, but alas I have to do a lot of "prep and study" and get a good handle on sign language before I would even consider applying for a degree there.

Those of you who go there are SO LUCKY! And to those hearing people out there who know how to sign really well, I couldn't be more envious. I've wanted to be able sign since I was 11 and tried to teach myself as a kid in my room in front of a mirror. I had no idea what I was doing and read a signed english book, an ASL book, and the sign language book that uses the "d" and "ly" at the end of signs which I think is SEE??? I've also taken 2 elementary sign language classes that did not focus on sentence structure so heaven knows what message I'm sending deaf people when I try to use it. (ha ha):)

Everyone at Gallaudet was very nice to me though. They all probably had a good chuckle talking about me when I left.

I live really close to gally... if anyones going and would like to be a friend/mentor that would be great! don't mean to be beging for friends but if i stand here and look really sad, I hope one of you will!

I've never been to Gallaudet. :(

My husband never went to Gallaudent, NOT EVEN TO D.C.--- yet he had this 12 by 5 inches bumper sticker saying: "GALLAUDENT UNIVERSITY, WASHINGTON D.C." sticking on his front window!

I told him: "If you are keeping that frigging sticker, you better make some plans to visit Gally-- you will be totally a hypocrite if somebody saw you and tried to ask you questions about Gally and you replied: 'actually I haven't been there'!" He eventually took it off but only said that it was "cramping his style" ...
:) I told him that he *have to* visit Gallaudent if he wants to be an ASL teacher. that way the deaf miliants won't murder him in the profession. He can scream out a disclaimer: "I KNOW ASL! I AM DEAF! I HAVE BEEN TO GALLY!" and he won't be used as an effigy to burn up.

;)

I have been there at Gally for only one week - that was a training paid by my work :P

Enterd Fall '87 and left Spring '88. I kept visiting thre but refused to be a student again. No thanks!! Once is enough.

i have a friend who is going to be first year at gallaudet this yr. In fact she is leaving canada tmw.

I enrolled Gallaudet last semester and I'm still going to gallaudet this fall. :D See you soon
