This is just my .02 cents.....
How will we be able to show we are the real deal when it comes to successful Deaf people being highly trained and very motivated in the working world ?
Whenever our egos on deaf pride shrink, I m sure more people from the outside will appericate us more. I promised myself, I will never work in a deaf school. I don't hate deaf people or dislike working with them. I want to show a different role model to deaf children and adults what they are capable of. They do not have to be a deaf teacher or counselor. They can work in the laboratory running tests like other hearing people do. I am truly tired of their pessimism about hearing people dislike deaf people. They might not have a good experience with hearing people, but they did not get a chance to show them what they are capable of.
"Well, Jane Fernados had a plenty of time to type a cover letter and edit her resume while she researched and compared the candidates' cover letters, resumes and application sheets from the Gallaudet University Library. Yep, she works as a Gally provost on the campus of GU.
Not fair for Ron Stern and other candidates with Phds who have not touched Gally for a long time."
I do not care who the committees picked whether if its Mr Stern or Dr Jane. I m sure that they would rather to pick a good president who knows what deaf people truly need. lf they think Mr Stern is a better candiate, they would pick him for sure. Unfortunately he didn't met their expections. I personally do not know Dr Jane or any of those running candiates. I have heard of Ron Stern through the deaf community. He is considered well known to the deaf community, but his popularity should not be the first pirority.
I feel like gallaudet students do not understand what it is like to be running a big university and be busy all the time. The president job can be really stressful and a lot of paper work to do. There might be no time to socialize with gallaudet people. I often hear gally students complain about Pres Jordan not having the time to stop and chat for a bit. Later, they labeled him as snob just because he can't chat with them. I think its quite selfish for them to demand his time. When a person who is a vice president or president of the univeristy, he/she will be so busy with numerous things. How can he or she have the time to chill out with students? Why don't students just worry about their academic work and other important things.
I'm dating a hearing guy whose father is a dean of college education at the Uni of Az. He works 6 times a week and he hardly gets home until 6 PM! He does not have the time to socialize or party with the UA students. He is always busy and he has to travel other states for giving out speech.
