It sounds like your VP 200 may be little defective or installer has not configurated the router/vp 200. I don't understand why installer has not replaced your router?

Contact Support tech again and explain why your router has not replaced. Installer should have replaced yours.
 
If I was to troubleshoot for black picture issue

I would check the to be sure the router is configure with the correct port forwarding or DMZ with VP200 ip address.

Also I would check VP200 to see if it have the correct ip address setup or to see if it was set to DCHP then switch it to static ip adddress.

I have same one for Time Warner Road Runner cable. This thing can stands up hefty abuses from me and I don't have any complaint on it.

This Motorola Surfboard modem is very solid one. Scientific Atlanta is very flaky. I noticed that every time I unplug ethernet from one device on router and plug in different device on router which had different MAC address. Scientific Atlanta modem tend to crash. It require unplugging WAN port from modem and hard reboot by using straightened paper clip and poke the hole near the power plug of the modem. It'll reboot 1st time then reboot again on its own 2nd time then plug in jack into WAN port. Devices would work as well as computer. It's really flaky. That's why I advises friends to get Motorola Surfboard 53xx Cable modem.

TRY going to nextalk.net on computer. you can download nextalk program and use your computer to make calls. they have relay service to use and you can also use tty direct as well. I use it alot. They also give you free phone number for yourself.
