Fake Sign Language Interpreter at Nelson Mandela memorial

nono. You're massively missing my point.

You had said, "Hearing voices and hallucinating in front of 95,000 people doing that and wanting to become friends? I wouldn't suggest it."

While there's lots to complain about with regard to this guy, I thought it was off that you were connecting his schizophrenic symptoms with the notion that it's not a good idea to become friends with him. Moreso because you suffer from Tourrette Syndrome. I would have expected more sensitivity about mental disorders and people who struggle with them.

Again, there's plenty to condemn this guy for. Putting himself in a position where an entire deaf community was depending on him for information when he knows he may be unable to deliver, then not being sufficiently horrified at what he'd done, or coming forward (as far as I know), etc. I'm not defending the guy. I'm looking at the way you chose to specifically point to his psyche disorder as a reason for your negative comments.

Okay, there's been a misunderstanding here. No, I wasn't trying to be negative-- I was just saying be careful if anyone here should want to try and contact him (not that it's likely to happen?), and I wasn't trying to be negative against people with mental disorders, because I DO have a mental disorder myself, so I know the sensitivity it brings a person when it's broached, and if I appeared to be negative, then that wasn't my intent, and I am sorry for that.

My view of this guy is that he took some time off from writing "I am the Prince of Nigeria" 419 scam emails and decided to use his connections to get him a job "waving hands" for a day because (he thought) nobody would notice.

I think you need to lighten up... I'm certain there is several forums that made threads like this here. Besides, what we post here becomes public and anybody in the world can find this thread in Google. It's not like everyone knows who you are here, forums is where total strangers debate and then make friends if they want to.

Just use your common sense when posting something in the internet, sure we all take risks on the internet but with common sense, the wiser.

Thanks Calvin. We do need to use common sense when posting, and some wisely chosen words every now and then.

Yes , I saw that on TV , he said he did not act out because there where armed guards everywhere and thanks goodness for that. I agree , this show how poor the security was there. One reporter said he was not screened before going through the dates. It was amazing nothing horrible happen .

:hmm:

So it's true then? An armed society is a polite society?

(well ... except for the fact he wasn't being very polite by being a fake interpreter an all)

No it not true it's not true. Look at what happen in Germany .

Maybe we shouldn't get sidetracked .... with CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo, FOX, and other media lurkers reading our posts :giggle:

(like living in one of those glass bubbles ..."Ohhhhh look at all those deaf people!!!" )

Maybe he was interpreting correctly ..... :hmm:

Maybe all those world leaders on stage were actually speaking gibberish? :dunno:
cuz I don't know for sure ...

:laugh2: What? Are you fu*king serious? You don't know for sure? Good joke, BTW.

OH MY GOSH!!! Do you have the news on?? I just saw this thread shown on CNN saying "Deaf up in arms about recent imposter" and showed pics of this AD thread!!! I turned to Fox and they did too!!! :eek3:

Checking CBS News now for that thread.

If he claimed that he learned how to sign SASL for one year but never mentioned about interpreter certificate which might be required to learn more than one year of signing. I don't believe him. Something is really fishing with him. He might have been a con-artist and want people to feel sorry for him. That is my opinion.

I was very disappointed that he could not delivered the speech of the World Leaders talking about Nelson Mandela in clear SASL or African Sign Language. We want to know what they said about Nelson Mandela. Now the "fake" interpreter ruined everything the World Leaders had spoken for. :(

To become a certified SASL interperter, one must undergo 5 years of training to be certified, and yet, it appears he never took any kind of training whatsoever.

I don't know..... I've seen a few people with schizophrenia and when they're having a freak out, there's no really controlling it. I suppose he could be different.... :dunno2: However, if I was seeing angels and demons in front of me I am pretty sure I'd be flipping s**t, regardless of armed guards, not continuing my conversation.... :dunno2:

Subject: CHARITY DISTRIBUTION
From:
Mr. Peter Attah

URGENT - HELP ME DISTRIBUTE MY $15 MILLION TO CHARITY

IN SUMMARY:- I have 15,000,000.00 (fifteen million) U.S. Dollars and I want you to assist me in distributing the money to charity organizations. I agree to reward you with part of the money for your assistance, kindness and participation in this Godly project. This mail might come to you as a surprise and the temptation to ignore it as unserious could come into your mind but please consider it a divine wish and accept it with a deep sense of humility.

I am Mr Peter Attah and I am a 55 years old man. I am a South African living in the Garden City of Port Harcourt - Nigeria. I was the President/CEO of TOMOBA OIL LIMITED - an oil servicing comapny in Port Harcourt. I was also married with two children. My wife and two children died in a car accident six years ago. Before this happened my business and concern for making money was all I was living for and I never really cared about other people.

But since the loss of my family, I have found a new desire to assist the helpless. I have been helping orphans in orphanages/motherless homes.I have donated some money to orphans in Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon,Spain,Austria,Germany and some Asian countries.

Before I became ill, I kept $15 Million in a long-term deposit account in Allied Bank PLC. Presently, I am in the hospital where I have been undergoing treatment for oesophageal cancer and my doctors have told me that I have only a few months to live. It is my last wish to see this money distributed to charity organizations. Because my relatives and friends has plundered so much of my wealth since my illness, I cannot live with the agony of entrusting this huge responsibility to any of them.

Please, I beg you in the name of God to help me collect the $15 Million and the interest accrued on the deposit from Allied Bank and distributes it amongst charity organizations.

You are at liberty to use your discretion to distribute the money and feel free as well to reimburse yourself when you have the money for any expenses you incur in the course of collecting and distributing the money to charity organizations. I am willing to reward you for your assistance and kindness.

Kindly expedite action and contact me via e-mail: peterattah2007@yahoo.co.uk if this proposal is acceptable to you.

May the good Lord bless you and your family.

Best Regards,
Mr Peter Attah

None of the signs that he used on the stage was matched with SASL.
