Explain this thought process, please.

You addendum:

If that amount isn't enough to keep them out of debt then what's to stop the state from increasing the percentage and lowering the cutoff limit in order to get even more tax revenue?

You consider increasing taxes to be progress?

I consider fair application of taxes to be progress, yes.

So tell me, how is the state to get out of debt otherwise? And will all of those that don't think that the wealthiest should be taxed, how exactly do you stand by that? Do you refuse to use the infrastructure of your state? You expect the state to provide, yet you prevent the state from taxing the 2% of the population that can actually afford the tax without having to do without basic necessities.

Can you just ignore that? You don't see how that is a precedence?

I would not vote for a state income tax. In fact, in our state I would vote to do away with the one we have.

Why should I vote to increase the amount of money the state bureaucrats will have to waste? They haven't properly managed the tax revenue they've been getting so why give them more of it?

Okay. Then do you also refuse to use any service provided by that state income tax?

Ok, point taken. As a voter, I wouldn't have picked on the "rich". Is that what Washington residents did?

I guess you could take that perspective. But given that they are 2% of the Washington population, the more accurrate way to put it is that they screwed the very people that it would help.

Now, explain exactly how that is to be done. What resources. Resources without funding dry up. How do we stop the infrastructure from crumbling. Take people's cars away? Institute a fine for driving over a certain number of miles every week?
Let's look at how state government spends money - majority of funds go to contractors who frequently and habitually go over the limit where we're forced to pay.

How do we create jobs without the funds to start business?
without income tax, we would have enough money to create businesses where we and our customers can pay for sales tax, business tax, commercial license fees, etc.

btw - that comment is from my deaf friend who works for government in DC :)

No need for income tax.

Reduce taxes to zero where people notice, just hide the tax somewhere else where people won't notice and prime it to the point where it could pay off the debt, slash services to the point where people are hurting, wait 10-15 years, bam, you're out of debts. Then hide the pain the people are going through, and ride on the illusion that it's for the betterness of the province.

It's the Canadian way.

And would appear to soon become the American way.:laugh2:

So, do you also refuse to use the benefits that an income tax provides for the state?

I refuse to pay for the benefits that I will never get.

...How do we create jobs without the funds to start business?
Businesses aren't started with tax revenue. Businesses are started by private investors who have enough money to invest when it isn't all taken away from them by income taxes.

So do you consider corporate, business and payroll taxes thievery as well? It's not coming out of your cheques, but it's affecting how much you make.

yup. they're all crooks but why should our state government be crook too?

So, you don't drive over the roads or use the bridges?

we pay other taxes for that. and the state government receives federal funding for that too. if we have a better sense of civil service... this would be the least of our problems.

Businesses aren't started with tax revenue. Businesses are started by private investors who have enough money to invest when it isn't all taken away from them by income taxes.

Many businesses are started with tax revenue. Googled the grants available from the government lately for small business?

But you still haven't explained how an income tax exempting the first $400,000 dollars of income will prevent businesses from coming into the state, affect the jobs of people living in the state, or affect business in any detrimental way at all.

It doesn't matter whether a state has an income tax because they will collect taxes through other methods. We have high property taxes, sales taxes, vehicle registrations, occupation taxes, etc. We're going to pay somehow. Just pick your poison.

But honestly... take the populist tactics as suggested in #12.

That way, no one will complain! All they will do is blame the economy!
