Ever Try To Make Your Hearing Better?

Some of the stuff in this thread is funny... I wouldn't be surprise if at one stage religious leaders/followers believed that those people who cannot hear have a demon blocking the ear..:)

I can understand why a piano can be used to train your ear to sound. There is also something called "sound therapy" that may used to improve hearing as well as improve well-being.

I would like to hear you play the piano too. But, I have to admit, even if you did make several mistakes, I probably wouldn't pick it up, because I don't listen to classical music.

I know that when people pray for you is that they mean well, but I don't know about the rest of you but I felt like a defect.

lo and behold.... as promised. The piece's called Sonatina by Muzio Clementi (popular piece). I'm afraid I couldn't finish rest of it... This is the best I can do - it has 2 errors ^_^

btw - I know my face's hidden but I don't have a tripod. My camera was placed on my mom's make-up mirror shelf but most of you may have seen what I look like that I posted in PICTURES & VIDEOS folder. well boost up your speaker volume and enjoy!

oh crap I forgot to wave HI to you AD'ers at the end of video.... well I'll make another video of me with different piece if I can get it right. To some of you who are not deaf, you may be hearing some ambiance noise in background - that's my gigantic A/C on... forgot to turn it off as well.

Thank you for posting that. It was fun to watch you play.:)

When I was a kid my mother use to make me do hearing exercises. What that is if I practice trying to hear that my hearing would get better. She believe that if a person would try hard enough they can hear.So ADers have you ever try to do odd things to make your hearing better?

Well.
To some extent, this is true, because hearing is part mental perception, and part physical... some things, logically, you would have to learn to distinguish.

HOWEVER. There is a point where this reaches absurdity. You can not learn to hear something if you cannot physically hear it to begin with. The only 'gray area' that I know of is with auditory processing, which is (obviously) different from 'bio-mechanical' hearing.

I have tried to learn how to clear up my hearing through CI (and tried many different programs and such), but it is just very difficult for me. We haven't been able to pin down exactly why, except possibly a processing problem (in the brain), but no official diagnosis of that has been made yet... I have kind of given up on it for now as it is frustrating and I have other things to worry about.

Well Pepsi.. that's kinda deep thoughts that u're sharing.. literally... if u are happy the way u are.. then be happy.. u might want to talk to mom and tell her that u were made to be deaf and be that way...

sheesh some of you were posting weird stuff about teacher making u eating vegetables or hear radio, when teacher knows u are deaf.. it's like trying to make someone on wheelchair to get up and walk all of the sudden?....

no I havent tried to make my hearing better by doing excercise or yoga or yada yada... I just got shoved with C.I. not very long ago... no I did not want it at first. but for my job postition I have to have communication skills to be able to stay employed. at the airline carrier. so I had no choice but got implaned. which I'm glad I got one.. no dont get wrong idea.. I'm not leaving deaf world.. I love being around Deaf ppl.. they are so fun to have.. I love body language and all the expression... Hearing has no expression.. just mono voice.. uuggg.. too boring.... lol

Right, jenni-m - you cannot learn to hear something that you cannot physically hear it. What I do is sharpen what's left of my hearing sense which is why I do this piano and music to sharpen my hearing sense. Just like you do crossword or some puzzles to sharpen your mind. I'm fortunate enough to have some hearing sense enough to hear music.

It took me years to accept my hearing lost after the way I had to grow up.I kinda forgave my mother she died in 03.Yes I am happy with myself.

Oh! I'm so sorry about ur mom's passing.. please forgive me for being a little harsh..

bless ur heart...

whenever my mom thinks that my hearing aid doesn't work, she would have me turn around and she put her hand over her mouth and say words like hotdog, hat, etc. But she doesn't do werid stuff to make my hearing better. only audilogist do weird stuff..lol

I feel the need to bump this thread. I wish my family would get off my back

:bump:

one time I ask my mother if I would ever hear like other people.

I can't remember exactly what she said, but she believed if I focused hard enough, I could be cure (kinda like inner body energy type of healing)

but the reality, it can't happen.

Yeah, I had one experience long time ago around early 1950. I was sitting in the seat with my mom on the metro bus going somewhere. All of a sudden there was a hand touch on my shoulder. I was kind of shock and look up to the person who put her hand on my shoulder. She was praying with her eyes close standing while the bus was moving. I was kind of embarrassed about her doing that to me. I don't feel anything from her, no aura. I am still deaf as usual and don't forget that I have been deaf since I was born. That was a strange occurrence. Weird person.

Yeah, people would try anything to get the deaf or hard of hearing to hear and find strange ways to get us to hear like the AGB. They can not make us hear, not with CI, trying to hear with clear sentences like on the radio, or tape recording or listening to people talking without lipreading. That is impossible unless you hear the words or some sentences that can repeat over and over many times that you recognize the sounds sometimes. That is wishful hope for hearing people, but that is not going to happen to any of us Deafies including the HOH. Too Bad, they are crushed when they learn they can not make us hear at all. HeHeHeHe. I love being Deaf anyway.

It's strange that i never experience this sort of thing where I'm from. But I think it has to do with majority of people here (including me) are baptists so they usually chastened people for this type of thing (they believe that tongue-speaking and stuff like that is unbiblical... but the work of healing from God would come through doctors because God gave them a gift to help people using his creation [cells, chemistry, etc] ).

My mom used to take me to Healer at the Church hoping that I will be healed to hear and she took me to line. Priest (Visiting Healer) put hands on my head and "chant" then he push both thumbs on my forehead trying to push me back to "fall down". In my mind, I was SOO :pissed: and felt like I want to slug that Healer!! for this. After that, my mom asked me if I can hear. No... I told her. She said you need to pray hard. Hard!! How can it be!! Sheesh

It wasn't my first time going to healer, There were Healer at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO. My mom took me there  where hundreds of people attends. Gladly, my mom and I was on 2nd level and healer on Arena floor just walked by everyone after he's done with "healing" groups of people on Arena floor. I did have very strong suspicious feeling that someone been paid to be "healed" by Priest. I stand corrected after I watched ABC news about it many years ago!!!

Lo and Behold!! I'm still DEAF!!!! :rofl2:

Some people told me to try practice hearing thing till it gets better. Even now I have CI, my mom and some people telling me to practice hearing things. IT DOESN'T WORK!! I HEARS WHAT I HEARS!! It does not change anything!! CI is totally different than Hearing aid and can't explain them about CI's limitation. It helps me hear more but not in a human voice range!!

I've been through with hearing people craps. Sad that they still don't understand our deafness.

Catty

I know that when people pray for you is that they mean well, but I don't know about the rest of you but I felt like a defect.

I feel that way rather they are praying people or not (think audist-like professionals)

when i was a stock clerk at a grocery store, i met this lady who knew sign. she invited me to her church, and i politely declined because i'm a secular humanist. a few days passed by, and that lady with a group of other ladies came to my house. i don't know where she found me, which is super creepy. so, i opened the door to see what was up.. i got asked why i wouldn't go to church. i told them i wasn't religious and they just kept grilling me. like.. okay, seriously, their religion isn't the only correct one in the world. but whatever.. and one of the ladies told me if i believed in their god, my hearing would be restored.

.....
.....

WHAT?!

i told them i was busy, and closed the door. they came by a couple more times and i didn't answer the door. it was the creepiest experience i've ever had..

I have no problems with religion and I do believe in the power of prayer. I also know that God answers prayer "in his own time".

Since the time I was 7 until now (46) my father (beforehe died) and my mother and all family have prayed for "healing" of my hearing problems. Nothing yet. Now when people tell me that I was not believing "hard enough" I just politely say, "Maybe God has a reason for my hearing loss and this is what he wanted." It usually stops them and they have to think about that.

I really believe there was a purpose for my hearing loss and therefore I will not try to do anything to change the status quo.
