and?

Mine says outside rearview mirror or hearing aids..

doens't even say anything about having passenger side mirrors.. interesting..

I'm aware of the fact that the older models didn't have side mirrors, although I was really referring to most of the motor vehicles currently on the road these days. I know there are a lot of old cars still running, but they are dwindling in numbers these days.
Cars change faster than laws do.

How are mirrors related to deafness anyway? They help you SEE, not hear.

yeah, the "and"-

Although I wasn't driving them <learned to drive late> I do remember too when cars didn't usually have the two mirrors.

I remember that too. Definitely remember when seat belts were optional. My sister, seated on the passenger side, went flying through the windshield in an accident, due to no seatbelts in the car. She ended up with a broken nose, sprained ankle, and something like 125 stitches, including inside her cheek, under her jaw, in her forehead, all over the place. Looked like The Bride of Frankenstein for a couple weeks. She was picking glass out of her scalp for months afterwards.

Things are better now, for sure.

The best place I've found to find information about laws for Deaf is at your nearest Deaf Society office or Deaf Centre/Center. I have found, from my own experience, that audis generally do not offer that kind of information.

Ohio requires it, I even had to have it on my temps when I was 16. It's the same as most everyone, you need to have both outside mirrors and a rearview. It also is noted that I wear prescription glasses/contacts so no biggie to me.

A few years ago it actually helped when I was in a pretty bad accident. One of the officers on the scene noticed the designation, found out that I can read lips and made sure the EMT knew about my deafness. It helped in those first critical moments of confusion where they had 3 different ambulances waiting to transport my daughters and I.

It varies by state. I think it's important to have it on your license, like other features such as wearing glasses, etc.

Helps police officers identify the driver.

Here in Houston, this happen to me. Another driver at fault took off my passenger side mirror and I had to wait for the insurance settlement. While waiting, I went to the police dept. and ask about this. there respond was that the law says "outside mirror" not mirrors. When I ask which side counted, they respond "the drivers side". So this is what is in the Texas Dept. of Public Safety Handbook.

For all deaf, that want one, we have a placard that explains being deaf to the officer. this way the officer knows the person needs to communicate in ASL but writting is ok for basic questions. This placard is hiden behind the sun visior until needed but can be kept in the glove box (highly not recommended because the officer might think you are going for a gun!)
If San Antonio does not have a P.I.P. (positive interact program) where the police and deaf community regularly communicate issues in a free setting (with drinks and food!!!) I can help you with setting one up. That goes to all deaf in all cities too.

Aren't all cars equipped with them anyway? I believe they are required here in Ontario for everyone, not just the deaf.

All the cars I see have 2 outside mirrors . I never been asked about being HOH when I got my driving license renewed, and that last time I had my hearing dog with me. He cried when I left him home and people upstairs complained about it.

This is going to be off-topic but a certified hearing dog does NOT cry when left alone. So I'll just assume yours is not certified. Otherwise, remedial training is needed.

My dog is no longer alive!! And I got him from NEADS. I heard a lot of the dogs barking at NEADS when I got my dog.

in ohio, we don't really have a placement on the driver's license saying that we're deaf, we just simply tell them by showing our HA's or CI's or saying "no can hear" but I have a restriction on my license since I'm deaf (which we all know).

my license on the back of the card says;

CLASS: D license is authorized to operate an operator vehicle.
ENDORSEMENTS: none
RESTRICTIONS: F3- In/Dual Out Mirror.

Some of them got broke out and don't bother to repair/replace. I saw one Deaf drove car with a broke mirror. Tsk tsk.

Hey,there. I cant believe Ohio driving licenses are pink. When I got mine renewed, I was ticked off. Our new governer doesnt like it and wants to change color.

BMV do not test my hearing, only my eyes. I don think they care about your hearing.

I'm pretty sure they had some sort of rudimentary hearing test (raise your hand when it beeps sort of thing) when I got mine renewed.

I agree, though, the pink is just ugly. :(

We have nothing to test one's hearing and boy is it something we should have since there are so many retirees here.

Standard vision & road signs is all, unless it's your first license, then there's a full written test and a driving test. Not sure how they handle the driving test though, do you have a terp with you?
