Does it make me a bad person..

Oh no not at all, do whatever your heart tells you, ignore those who think less of you...

And good luck on your CI too :)

Forced implanting.
I assume you mean on children, but won't get into that debate.
Destroying residual hearing. It is something each person knows can happen before surgery and doesn't always happen. What good is residual hearing if the ha is at max and there is more feedback than normal sound? Or what you hear sounds terrible and distorted?
Damage to cochlear nerve. Only if the surgeon is unskilled, I would imagine, although it is true mistakes do occur, but that could be said for any surgery.
Higher risks of meningitis. Once the decision to have the CI is made, the meningitis vaccine is recommended and in my case, insisted upon before surgery.

No child has a choice to choose anything other i.e. hearing aids, deaf world, deafness, etc.. once they are forced from a very early age to be implanted. That has all been taken away.

Damage to the cochlear results anyways. That's why there is a loss of all residual hearing. If it did not happen then there would be no loss of all residual hearing.

Yes, I am sure people are aware of that, but what about those who change their minds after the fact? Should these people be messed up for the rest of their lives just simply because they decided to change their minds?

Vaccines have never been safe. There is actually a link between the Meningitis Vaccine and Guillain Barre Syndrome.

Also, the Meningitis Vaccine is only temporary. The Meningitis Vaccine has never been a long term solution.

Study proves cochlear implants prevent or reverse damage to brain's auditory nerve system - Health - redOrbit

Perhaps this is one reason parents opt to have their children implanted? I don't really like getting into that debate as there are obviously many sides and beliefs to that issue. As for cochlear damage, it is not the nerve, it is the hairs in the cochlea from what I have been told. The nerve is what makes the implant work, as the electrical signals are sent to it and from there to the brain.
I could be wrong, and it won't be the first time, but all I know is I can hear now better than I have in two years. And it is getting better every day.

I suppose I could go on and find more links, then you could do the same. How about if we just agree to disagree? After all, that is what the whole CI debate comes down to: your own personal beliefs.

Your not a bad person at all, its great that you want to hear!! Because some people chose the CI just not to wear it after recieving their CI without really tryin hard. It is hard work, yes but with patience you can hear with it!!

Iv been deaf all my life, im mostly oral, i can sign, not great but I can sign, Iv had a CI for 8 years

jasin,

you're never going to convince a ci user that there is anything wrong with ci's. you certainly won't convince me.

*Sigh* Excuse me Jasin.... this post is OLD why bring it up, Militarygirl83 had her CI done ages ago. Looks like you had been forking up old posts and making debates about them!

I was in militarygirl83 postition, and now have CI and couldn't be happier. I listened my own heart. If someone have something against me and my CI it's their loss, they lost a good loyal friend. Nothing changed me just my hearing!

i sent you a pm the other day, overthepond, im sure i did

I was raised oral and taught English signs too (and at a deaf school! but this school used to be strictly oral for many years until in the 80's when they started using SEE), no worries! Everyone grow up and learn differently, and have their own methods of communicating. I didn't even start learning ASL until 8th grade.
