That I was raised with oral and english signs? I didn't know about ASL until I was at IL school for the deaf. I read lips and speak very well. Also the reason that I want CI.. because I want to hear more things and to be able to hear my kids' voice especially when they say ILY Mom to me. I use oral most of the time with my mom since she doesn't sign much plus the rest of my and in laws family. Jeremy and I do sign and talk at the same time.

Sorry, I just had to vent!

No, that does NOT make you a bad person.

Yeah, alot of people thought that I am hearing because of the way I was typing and writing. English is my passion in school. So that's why I learned how to write very well. Someday I will get more English classes in college so I could write a book or something else like that! :)
Yeah, that's common in deaf people who are good at English. My fiancee has such a clear voice that her family uses it to "prove" she isn't deaf. :tears: Even a lot of hearing people (including me) are surprised she is deaf, but she was hard of hearing when she learned to speak.

To me the fact that anyone would have to ask this questions shows how much influence some people in the deaf community have on people who do not conform to their idea of communication and exceptable interventions............... Go for it if you really want it. :scatter:

Nah, it doesn't make you a bad person. I was born deaf, but I wear a hearing aid to help me hear better. Now, I hear almost like a hearing person... am I bad now? No. I'm still deaf without my hearing aid. If you got cochlear implants, you would still be deaf without your cochlear implants. So, you're still the same person you were before. Just don't let other things change your life. :)

If that is your gut feeling, then listen to it, maybe you should ask more questions, be wary of loaded questions- that is questions with predictable answers.

For a person to trust their own instincts is sometimes the hardest thing to do.

You might be feeling guilty about leaving the deaf community because you really want become the closest thing you can be to a hearing person and yet want to stay in the deaf community?!

The strangest thing is the desparation to HEAR and YET to STAY in the cosy zone in the deaf community ?!

The reason behind the 'fork of wishes' eludes me.
One might guess its akin the fear of the unknown, rightly so, the resultant of the outcome recieiving CI is apparantly unpredictable, once you stepped in , there no turning back, whether positive or not.

Its your life, your body and ultimately listen to your gut feeling, what does it tell you?

Get ALL the information you can get, have it equal on both sides of the equation, read the myths and the facts. and realise you're STILL Deafm and realise hearing world will STILL consider you as a deaf person, Life isn't going to BLING, you're awake from the the next day after you left the hospital as so the whole life before you was a 'bad dream of you being deaf' waking up as a hearing person. if you're thinking that or similar you're fooling yourself.

Seek what you feel and do that 3 times, think twice and once more before you leap.

:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

No, it doesn´t make you a bad person. You should consider yourself and follow your heart what you really wants, not let anyone influence on you.

Just follow your heart. Which is more important? What other people say or what you think is right for yourself? Only you can decide that...and nothing wrong with that!

Ever heard of the "crab theory"? There is a bucket of crabs and they are all sitting at the bottom of the bucket. One crab started climbing to the top and other crabs used their claws to pull him/her back down to their level. Now you can imagine a deafie climbing to the top and others are pulling him/her down out of jealousy, hate, etc...get the picture... :)

Hey, sillycat! Those crabs sound like some of my relatives!! :naughty:

never think of neagtive about yourself. dont you dare let anyone put u down. its your life and you get to do what you want to do with your life. if u are happy with your decision so why are u worry about others? ingore them.. enjoy your life because you are the only one who get to enjoy it.. not others... :) Wish u the best of luck in getting CI

First I want to say, Why do you care what others think of you? You don't owe anyone an explanation for all that matters. All I can see on your post that it bothers you a great deal that someone thinks you're a bad person because you can speak, you were raised oral. But, who are the ones that still talk to you and still consider you as a friend? Those people are more important than the rest of the people who aren't your true friends. The bottom line is who cares what others think of you. ;)

that right.. its is your own decision for getting a ci or not.. i understand that u may be nervous or afraid of the deaf community at this moment for even thinking about it, but thank to this site, and people with experiences and supportive comments, they helped me go through and get rid of those fear of the deaf community's point of view on my decision. It may seem that there are alot of bashing against ci, but really there are alot of support and repect about it, so just be yourself, and if you really want it, go for it.. It takes a long time to make a final decision, it took me 6 months for me of research and decide what i want, and another year to absoluty sure of what i want along with testing and stuff. So it is not an easy decision to make. Decide wisely and follow your guts and feeling, be yourself.
