Does it annoy you when you cannot pronouce something?

Can you pronounce these words:

Náqc
Lepít
Mitát
Pílep
Páxat ?

The above are numbers in our language.

Háma (man)
'Áyat (woman)
Hísemtuks (sun & moon)
Kús (water)

I have trouble from time to time speaking in any language. :giggle:

Ever since receiving my CIs, I've tried to resume my studies of French, German and Spanish, but am really struggling. I'm not sure why since I have no difficulty hearing. What I suspect might be the cause is the fact that it has been such a long time since I heard a foreign language (10 years) that it no longer sounds understandable to me. :dunno:

LOL... love this thread... Though I'm hearing I know 6 languages and speak/understand 4 languages fluently. I'm juggling every day between those four main languages and sometimes pronounciation sucks LOL. It's funny...

I love every way of communication, no matter how you say or pronounce it. Eventually the other person in front of you will understand what you mean :giggle: And if that doesn't work, I'm sure a pen and notepad will do just fine :D

Just my two crappy euro cents.

don't get in trouble!

My b/f lets me know when I say words wrong, there are a few of them but I can't think of what they are at the moment. Usually I say words like how they appear in writing, and miss silent letters and combos of letters and stuff like that. My speech impediment people tell me now just sounds like a slight English accent, or so I am told.

I just have some difficulties with new spanish terminology. I am late deafened so I presume I speak words fine. everyone has trouble with some including tongue twisting

I always have a problem trying to pronouce the word: ask. My dad would hit me in my leg gently and lightly to get me to say the word right. he would say: "say it like this: ass-k."

that would make me laugh. but every time i come up to need to say that word, i try to advoid it by saying "request" because i can say that. Seems like my "as" words are kind of hard.

I cant pronounce hamburgers for some weird reason. Whenever I order them, I always write it down instead of wasting a good 5 or so minutes trying to pronounce it right. It eliminates the annoyance.

another one I just ran across - bedsheets.

it usually comes out as bedshits. I avoid it at all costs if I can help it.

Like in class once the teacher was asking me to pronouce somethin in front of the class but i refused cos i knew i was going to be laughed at because I didnt know how to pronouce the word.

That was one of the biggest drawbacks being orally mainstreamed..those reports that I have to give a lecture in front of the class. Someone toldme that the kids would look forward to whenever I lecture cuz they would make bets on how many words I would mispronounce. I felt so sick to my stomach when my friend told me that afterwards. I told the teacher that there would be no more oral presentations for me and to go ahead and give me an F on those reports. I got called to the principal's office for that and they told me that I need to learn to ingore the kids. Yea, right! If I knew ASL or was in an ASL program, I wouldnt had this problem at all.

Your principal should have called the kids into his office and told them, if they continue with this behaviour THEY would be the ones receiving F's on their reports. The teacher should have clamped down on this from the very get go.
For the same reason I don't like standing up in front of crowds to give an oral report. People tell me I talk like I have rocks in my mouth. Oh gee wonderful.

They had no understanding of my deaf needs...I was told that I was making excuses to avoid work.
