DOD Asks: How Would You Feel Showering With Gays?

Rules change. Companies change their policies. If I get a job and I like but then my boss changes a rule, do I just throw my hands up in the air and give up? No, I finish out my contract and then I think about finding a new job.
I don't know what you mean by "give up." If the rules change after a military member signs the contract he or she must obey the new rules until his or her time is up.

By "give up" I mean quitting the job.

I have heard the military :( 's on that

It does, which is why I made the point about finishing through the contract. And the other point that gays already serve in the military. Straight members already shower with gay members as is. So nothing would actually be changing in terms of who you're showering with. Gay members would just be afforded the same rights as straight members.

Morale would change. Don't take my word......I asked my lesbian friend. She is a Marine. Served for 8 years. She is very much against repealing DADT.

How would women feel about showering with men and vice versa?

What about using the bathroom? Ias it ok for men to walk into a women's room and use the urinal?

Where exactly are the boundaries?

This about men taking showers togethers not men and women .
yeah it is ok for a man to walk in a woman if they're dating or married.
But this a whole other subject.

Fraternization is off limits in the military. That means, no dating or friendships between officers and enlisted, or senior officers and junior officers, or senior enlisted and junior enlisted, especially if they're in the same chain of command.

Ah ok I did not know this...i still know of ppl tho who met while serving and later married...

they can if both of them are finished with military or if one of them are finished with military.

haha did I ever say at all that I wanted to force ANYONE to do anything against their own will? NO...Like how you tried to turn it round on me tho...good try.
I don't care who showers where or when or how..All I am saying is if someone CHOOSES to shower or go to a public bathroom where a lesbian or gay person is don't ASSUME they are checking you out or wanna bone you just cuz your of their sexual preference. I like boundaries actually...I dont think public restrooms should be integrated. Not to sound like I have a big head or I'm conceded but I get hit on enough as it is in a regular public settings, I'd rather not get hit on while I'm naked or doing my business, thanks:)

And I bet if you asked gay guys if they wanted to shower with straight men they're answer would be no...gay guys have high standards lol they don't look at every good looking straight guy and want him..trust me

I wasn't trying to twist what you said around. I thought you were posting your thoughts in regards to the article concerning the DOD survey in the OP.

Straightophobia should end too. I know of plenty of women who think guys are staring at their boobs when they are not. ;)

Wow, you asked one person. So because one person told you what she thinks, you're just going to blindly agree with her? Why don't you ask more than one gay/lesbian service member (former or current) and try to get more of a consensus?

It only takes one. If morale changed for just one person......then something changed. You said nothing would change.

I was posting my thoughts but when I replied I never said any of those things you questioned...and I'm BI actually..so I have nothing against men per se. And I think I know the difference between a glance and staring..i'm not blind im deaf ...sorry CJB not trying to be rude...just saying

oh i definitely know a lot of guys stare at her boobs, it happens a lot but meh.

In regards to the topic, if you are uncomfortable showering with others, that's it that's all. Be it around gays, straight, bi, elephants, monkeys, aliens or spaceships, you just aren't comfortable period. If you aren't comfortable with it and are planning on enlisting in the military, you should probably try to deal with that because it'll be inevitable.

Nothing would change in the sense that gays are already in the military, showering right along with everyone else, and yet there seems not to be any major issues, so what difference does it make if the straight members happen to know? They might feel uncomfortable at first but eventually they'll probably realize that being gay doesn't mean you have to automatically screw any moving thing of the same sex.

I disagree......oh well

OK, I am in the military, and I myself, don't care what goes on in someone else bedroom. There will be problems with the whole open about who you sleep with in the army. Mostly the housing, showering, sleeping, comfort of the individual. If someone not comfortable with showering someone that is gay/lesbo, then they have their right to request their own shower units, same with everything else(living arrangements).

Showering is 1 point that be big. There will have to be 4 showers or 1. It either have to be a shower for straight males, gays, straight females, and lesbians or 1 CO-ED shower. It either those, cause straights can argue that since a gay/lesbian can shower with ppl they like, why can't they. Also, they can argue that since they don't feel right, they should have their own shower. Either way, it has to be 4 showers(which will take up more room, or just 1 shower, which require a lot of change.

Then the living arrangement. Right now, if a soldier is not married, they live in the barracks, and depending on their rank and size of the room, it with 1-2 other ppl of the same sex. How they going to room them? It the same idea as the showers. Also, would they allow two gay/lesbians that are in a relationship room together in the barracks? Right now, CO-ed rooms are not allowed. Someone from the opposite sex suppose to sign into the other's room, more for the protection of both ppl.

Going to the field or deploying is up to the unit mostly about the sleeping arrangements. My first couple units, we go to the field and we all slept in the same tent, just females had their area corned off. Being deployed, there is no CO-ED rooms again, and even married soldiers are not living together at some locations.

Another thing, when a soldier does get married, they are allowed to apply for military housing, size depending on the size of the family. With gays and lesbians, they might not have kids, and would they be allowed to have the same size house that a husband/wife have with 1 or 2 kids have? In a military community, would the other families around them be comfortable with them living next door?

I, myself don't care. I am not bothered by showing with a gay guy. I don't care what a gay guy does, feels. I draw the line at some point, but they have their right to defend their country like myself. I won't mind the CO-ED showers(sorry, the dirty side of me) but understand that might be out of the question all together. That also the reason why I think it a bad idea. There is still to many people that are not open to that kind of life and it still a long ways away. There are still people out there that are upset with Obama as our Commander and Chief.

Do straight married couples without children get the same housing as straight married couples with children? Some gay couples have children too. Wouldn't that be more about number of people per family and spacing than gay or straight?

My sister came out years ago. She was frightened to tell me because she thought I would reject her completely. I told her I loved her no matter what and would always be her big brother.

And I a fundamentalist .... imagine that.
