Doctor stops accepting insurance, lowers prices and posts costs online

That is just half of the problem I'm seeing, the other half is Insurance industry do play games to get away and keep bunch of profit for themselves. This is not just hurting the patients, but hurting the doctors as well.

Insurance is a complete racket!!! The premiums are ridiculous. The last time we had it I figured it out, for what we paid in premiums every month, one family member could go to the doctor, get a $4 prescription every single week of the year, pay out of pocket and it would cost less than the premiums, you could even through in a $1200 ER visit and it would still be less.

2 weeks before that insurance kicked in I had to take my son to the ER for an allergic reaction, and I had been moaning about whay couldn't this happen a couple weeks later when the insurance kicked in, but it wouldn't have mattered really. There was, I forget 1K or 1500 a year deductible, the bill was for $1200. We'd have had to pay a $100 copay (going towards the deductible) but we'd still have had to pay the whole bill ourselves anyway to meet the deductible. And we were paying $500 a month for this why???? Seriously Health Insurance is just stupid.

For those who don't know. Majority of antibiotics are FREE at Publix.

intended to mislead? that would be illegal.

the contracts you sign with insurance company is full of..... ? it's certainly not a "few pages" with font size 12.

 Ok, I'm sure you totally meant what you are saying now. :cool2:

And now it is mandatory! :)

if a doctor truly cares about patients, then he would say screw you to insurance companies and be more flexible with payments but look around.... many doctors care more about their financial well-being than patients' well-being.

such a shame.

My cousin is a doctor....she complains to me about the insurance companies and goes to 3rd world countries to perform surgeries free of charge. I guess that is what she must be talking about. I don't work in the medical field so I am not as knowledgeable about what goes on between the doctors and the insurance companies.

You have no clue, and Im keeping that way. Sorry. Someday, if it hits you, don't come to me and said, hey buddy, you were right all along.

I suggest you read that paragraph right before the last paragraph in the link that Ambrosia just posted.

I rest my case, Have a great day.

what case? a case with no facts or information? comical

Actually once they set up the State Exchanges I'll qualify for subsidies and it won't cost nearly as much as I'd have to pay to buy it myself. :D

Personally I like the idea in that article I posted. Everyone has mandatory catastrophic insurance, and pay out of pocket or financing, or going to clinics where you pay a monthly fee. Paying $500+ a month for "just in case" is just ridiculous. But I would pay $100 a month for "just in case" that's more doable, and reasonable

Shel, Insurance companies are a PITA. i deal with them on a daily basis. Certain insurances will only pay for certain things. Also if your script was written by a doctor that is not affiliated with the particular insurance. It will reject. Many medications require a prior authorization. Which is another pain. We spend alot of pharmacy hours battling insurance companies so the patients get the meds they need.

Deal like that done, yeah. I can't believe how insurance companies trying to dodging on paying out. Its happening, and it is actually costing more money in long run. Sad, but you know it exists.

My kids have medicaid, and they're a pain. My daughter has asthma and I wanted her to have 2 inhalers, one for at home and one for at school. But medicaid will only cover one prescription for the same medicine per person, so I could only get one for her. I had to fill out paperwork with the school allowing her to have it in her backpack and self admister and now I just have to hope she remembers to keep in her back pack and that she brings it to school everyday *sigh*

Fyi..I used to work for an insurance company in the early 90s so I know how it goes. I worked in the auto insurance dept..lots of stupid rules on who gets approved for car insurance or not so I can imagine the same for medical insurance. Grrrr

Perhaps in your way of thinking. :dunno: Most people consider "fine print" as something that is shady or intended to mislead. I this case is strictly SOP for the insurance biz.

This is, and not just for health insurance.

My bestie, her husband owns a gas station. One day the sign for the store fell over and landed on her car, which was in his name and under his insurance. The car insurance didn't want to cover it, they said the stores liability insurance has to pay, the stores liability ins didn't said they don't have to, that's it's for customers and since he's the owner he's not covered, that his car ins should have to pay. I have no idea who ended up paying, if anybody. If they can squeeze out of covering something they will. very very very SOP

The private medical insurance is HORRIBLE if you want medical treatment in other state - out of network, however Medicaid is abysmal because not covered at all for out of states. Medicare is great because of nationwide coverage.

I hate network based insurance.

yea. it's because of procedures, paperworks, policies, yada yada involved with insurance companies. it's a headache. as I explained before - a doctor is bounded by an insurance company's way in order to get paid.

that's why in OP, the doctor got fed up with it and chose to do his own pricing system directly with the patients but the question is... are most of doctors willing to give up a wealth for this? :hmm:

I'm very fortunate to have chiropractor, dentist, and family doctor who are like the doctor in OP. My family and I know them for very long time. My parents do not have health insurances.

Yeah, this can happen. Fingers pointing at each other without taking the bite.

Wow, not surprised, if you live in Alabama so your daughter will not qualify for Medicaid because you make too much money.

SC is little better than AL.

That is to eliminate the cost of doing paperwork for insurance company in order to get money. Often the wait time to get money from insurance companies around 90 days! Are you willing to do paperwork for free? Ahh, thought so!

Two Deaf Doctors here in my town quit private practice, I asked both of them why?

Both of their answer was the same, lots of work with paperwork to get money, and it takes 3 months for them to get paid. They can't continue practice like that.

If my cousin was single I would be able to assess her wealth but she married another doctor who is 15 years her senior and he had already acquired wealth from his practice and with his family so my cousin has more luxuries than I do (she is only 28 years old) so I don't know if it they are from her earnings or his. I don't ask but they are both definitely very very very well off.

She is the first doctor in our family so it is all new to us.
