Let's say you had something vintage and people want to talk about it.

Example #1:

You have a 1960 Schwinn Corvette bike that you love riding around town. If you were hearing, you would hear everyone talking and pointing to you. Wow, what a cool bike this is!! I wish I would ride a bike like this :). However, you're deaf, so you don't get to hear people saying wow this is a cool bike. You just enjoy riding it because it's cool to you.

Then again, what if you were riding on a 10 years old Huffy bike? You won't hear anyone saying what a stupid bike you have. Wow, this is piece of a crap bike you're riding.

Eample #2:

You have a 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible. You wish you would hear people whistle and say wow, what a nice piece of classic you have. However, you enjoy the car on your own because you don't hear anyone tell you what a wonderful piece of wheel you have.

What if you were driving a rusty 1985 Dodge Aries? You won't hear anyone tell you what a poor person he/she is. He just cannot afford a safe car. You don't hear anything negative because you're deaf.

Example #3:

You are mowing your lawn with a vintage Deere 70 riding mower. You get to hear people saying wow, this guy is simple. He likes vintage items just like in the good old days!!! Being deaf, you do enjoy Deere 70 for what it is, but you don't hear the whistles and the conversation piece this one makes.
 
Usually when someone admires something you have, it shows not just in their spoken words but in their face and body language. When I had a Harley, I got admiring nods from other bikers, and when I did actually own a very cool bike that was very retro, same thing happened again - looks of admiration or thumbs up signs. No hearing necessary to pick up on this.
 
ANYONE who thinks that I am pushing CI on people can put me on IGNORE!!! I don't have time for people accusing me.

Then what is the point of continuing pointing out how it would be nice if we can hear. This is not the first one I have seen you posted. What is your goal when you compared situations where we can hear or where we can't? I just want know what is your goal.

I was just curious if people in general were interested in wishing that they would hear abouit what great thing(s) they have.

Try to think of something really cool you have. A cool conversation piece you may have. In my case, I would use a 1960 Schwinn Corvette. I was just curious about if anyone wished they would hear what cool stuffs they were saying about the 1960 Corvette. Or are they satisfied with nod and a thumb up??

It does not have to be 1960 Corvette. I was just using it as an example. Not everyone likes bikes.
 
Sounds like you are a late-deafened. Many of us were born deaf. I agree with DeafCaroline that we don't really need to hear the comments - good or bad. It is all about their face expressions. Sometimes they would give a thumb-up.

You gotta to understand that ones who were born deaf are a world apart from those who can hear or lost their hearing after they learn to speak. I need my peace so I don't care if I can hear them or not. I just don't like to get all jumpy whenever I hear noises with my hearing aids in.
 
People that are very vain care about what other people say or think about them. I could care less what people think about what I drive wear or whatever! The only thing I wish I could hear is my sweet granddaughter talking to me.
 
Frankly, I like flying under the radar. No amount of money would be enough to buy my personal freedom. I prefer to come and go with little notice.

People who judge me on the basis of my material possessions are not my friends. True friends don't care about superficial things like that.

There are lots of people that join clubs to show off their vintage something. Or to show off their craft skills. Maybe it's a vanity thing. But for most it's a social thing.

I think it is both...to feel good about one's talent and to socialize with others who have the same interests. Nothing wrong with that. :)

I have gotten so used to people talking about me behind my back and I have learned the meaning of true friends in the recent years. After what I went through 2 years ago with my daughter, this kind of thing is not important to me anymore.
