Do you wish you were talk of town sometimes??

:ty:

I have gotten so used to people talking about me behind my back and I have learned the meaning of true friends in the recent years. After what I went through 2 years ago with my daughter, this kind of thing is not important to me anymore.

I was not around 2 years ago. I am sure many people don't know. I am curious what happened if you don't mind.

Not here on AD..but in real life. My daughter was taken away from me and moved 3,000 miles away. That does put a new perspective on life and what is important and what is not. I grew up worrying about what other people thought or said about me..now, I dont care. In turn, I have become someone who used to be so afraid of confrontation to someone who will tell someone off if needed.

I told a co-worker off yesterday and had to write up an IR against her. She was my friend outside of work but at work, she was very unprofessional. The old days, I would have said nothing and accepted her talking about me but I caught her...wrote up an IR. Like I said, I dont give a flying f**ck about silly things like that anymore. If someone wants to trash talk about the back of my car being held together by blue tape because I cant afford to pay close to $500 for repairs, let them.

It will never make me wish I could be "hearing". I dont give a damn what hearing people think of my deafness. If I miss out on shit...I will catch up later. Not the end of the f***^** world.

I don't give a sh*t about what people says once they saw something cool. The only thing when I have vintage items, it just basically become a magnet. They will come to me and ask all sort of things. You know I rebuild cars, like one example here in this pix, 1968 MBG, brought it for $500, bad shape. Then it took me year and half to rebuild it. This car have 8 layers of acrylic, reupholstered seats and carpet, new top. Once I'm on the road, some people come to my car and they want to touch it. Sometime people want to buy this car for $5000 and so on. It just simply a magnet. Then I rebuild 1960 Austin Healey 3000 Mark 1 (pix below).

Wow, cool cars!!!!! Thank you for sharing them with AD :).

I am glad that you understand me. Some people like hearing what others say or think about their vintage item(s). Some doesn't.

Those are nice classics by the way. I would not mind owning one of those type of vehicle down the road.

Derek... It can be DOWNRIGHT ANNOYING to be "the talk of town"...

I have several instances, but one i'll share.

Driving the H1 - People will drive in circles around you while you're driving. People will stare at you while steering away from you. One guy almost went down a mountain doing this.
Fathers in their tiny S10 pick ups will point and tell their sons what an awesome car it is.
People will ask for rides. Douchebaggery goes up ten fold.

I don't miss it. :)

Well, I don't give a shit about what people think of what I have. I THINK what I like or don't like. I have a 2000 Honda Civic and I know for sure no one cares about it because it's just a boring little car.

Early in the days, many people didn't like Mac computers and that didn't stop me from loving Mac computers til the present day.

It will not be a boring little car if it was turbocharged!!! Then you would have some fun :).

I think it is both...to feel good about one's talent and to socialize with others who have the same interests. Nothing wrong with that. :)

I have to disagree with this! My dad tried to join a golf club that was not far from our house as businessmen would meet there to make new deals. My dad was not allowed to join because he was Jewish! I heard that 50 years later Jewish people where still not allowed to join!

That's very unfortunate but do you disagree that it's nice to meet and socialize with others who share the same interests?

Lol, it's not the most attractive looking car either. Altho it has a sohc VTEC motor, 1.6 liter I-4. It produces 127 hp at 6600 rpm and 106 ft lb at 5000 rpm. Can get to 60 in about 8 to 8.5 secs. If I put in a DOHC VTEC from the Civic Si, it will be pretty quick for sure. 160 hp at 7200 rpm.

Not surprising to see how some ADers reacted negatively to the OP's thread. He sounds like my brother. I remember very vividly in DSC his profile that he rejects any Deafie woman who is unemployed especially if it was due to layoffs and is on SSDI/SSD. He doesn't even want to have a woman who graduated from RIT or Gally.

I would not know as I tried to do this and I was not welcome . People in my snobby city do not want take the time to understand my speech.

Sounds like you are a late-deafened. Many of us were born deaf. I agree with DeafCaroline that we don't really need to hear the comments - good or bad. It is all about their face expressions. Sometimes they would give a thumb-up.

You gotta to understand that ones who were born deaf are a world apart from those who can hear or lost their hearing after they learn to speak. I need my peace so I don't care if I can hear them or not. I just don't like to get all jumpy whenever I hear noises with my hearing aids in.

Derek is not late-deafened, fyi.

Yeah, people get laid off. People lose job. It has happened with my current girlfriend. IT has happened with my family member.

I just hate it that people deaf or hearing just sit and not want to try to do anything about finding a job.
