That's interesting, My own view is that it'll make a big differences in everyone's life getting healthy instead of wasting millions and millions of dollars on medical costs. I know people are responsible for their own condition, but helping others improve their lifestyles and prevent obesity would make a huge differences, so taxpayers don't have to spend so much money on Medicare and Medicaid.

People wouldn't have temptations if junk were at the highest cost where people could not easy afford, not everyone does their daily exercise, so watching what they eat doesn't do anything either, but enforced taxes to go up high would be more in help for them, keep American people in shape, healthy and have a long lasting life.

I think it's worth the try to see how far that would go. ;)

I didn´t think twice as I quoted your post until Cheri´s and Eve´s other posts come. Their posts make sense to me.

I don´t think political use fat tax as an excuse. The reason they have to raise the tax on unhealthy foods to support Public Healthy Insurance (Medicare) because obesity treatments cost Public Healthy Insurance (Medicare) millions.

Like what my hubby quit smoking at 3 years ago due cigarettes expenses. We don´t drink alochol much.

Both of you are trying to threat on our freedom since USA is freedom then we can eat any food, whatever we want too, not your decide to control on us.

Smoking is worse than obesity but medical center in USA isn't free and you have get insurance to make on your own health problem, if I'm obesity, that's my problem, not your problem because we aren't in Canada, UK or other countries that offers free medical center (universal health center). I can pick any food whatever we want too.

This article is just discuss about in UK or somewhere in Europe but I highly doubt that would happen in USA, that is doubtful to happen like that.

Liebling asked everyone a question and I gave her my honest opinion. You need to learn to deal with every point of views not just your own. Nobody said anything about taking control of America only putting our point of view in this very subject. ;)

Smoking and obesity are both deadly combination, both involves health risk, Obese individuals spend more on medications than individuals who smoke. See? that's the issue I don't like about American people, when one says "It's not my problem it's yours" It would be nice if every American would go there way helping other people, this is the America I would like to see, where everyone cares about each others.

I voted no. It will not change anything. Just look at the cigarettes/alcohol taxes, they thought if increase the taxes then will make people quit, but not work! People still drinking and smoking even they are charged by taxes..

Cigarettes and alcohols are still cheap nowadays, some states have higher prices on tax on cigarettes, give it time, when it taxes hit higher that they couldn't be able to afford it, they'll quit. ;)

No, Smoking cause more health problem than obesity because of brain cancer and other cancer, that is too impossible to treatment or cure and brain cancer is fatal disease. For obesity, if people who received heart attack, heart failure or vein related issue and refusal to enter surgery or treatment then would be result in fatal or whatever. I'm obesity and BMI is roughly 30 then I haven't got any problem with obesity, also I'm younger too, not old so enough to cause more serious disease like heart attack or heart failure.

Obesity can be treated so easier when lose the weight, change in diet and excerise so often but smoking is totally different story because too hard to quit due addiction and need have drugs to make quit in periods. I don't like smoking anymore because I got diffcult to breath and cough so often. For obesity, I got nothing.

Some obesity people are lucky so enough to haven't receive serious disease, though.

My grandpa was passed away in 1995 due lung cancer and brain cancer, that cause from smoking because he had been smoking when he was 13 years old and passed away in mid-50's.

I think it is just throwing good money after bad.....

No, Smoking cause more health problem than obesity because of brain cancer.

You should have done your research.

Health Risks of Obesity worse Than Smoking, Drinking, or Poverty

Obesity is widely recognized as a health risk. The negative effects of obesity and other known health risks, such as smoking, heavy drinking, and poverty, have been well documented. But until now, no one has compared them. Is one problem worse than another? Or are they all equally risky?

Two RAND researchers, health economist Roland Sturm and psychiatrist Kenneth Wells, examined the comparative effects of obesity, smoking, heavy drinking, and poverty on chronic health conditions and health expenditures. Their finding: Obesity is the most serious problem. It is linked to a big increase in chronic health conditions and significantly higher health expenditures. And it affects more people than smoking, heavy drinking, or poverty.

There are some obesity people that weight more than 400 pounds, losing weight for them is not as simple as you stated. Dieting is a very difficult process to stick on with. It's not easy, anyone who went on a diet would tell you that. Obesity people have obesity-related illnesses such as high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, etc.

Not every smokers quit using nicotine replacement products, such as patches, nicotine gum and etc, not every smokers rely on nicotine products, some of them quit within health reasons such as asthma, or any other health reasons.

Ok, whatever, when you stated people with severely obese, like 300-400 lbs. or more in 6'0 height then I cannot familiar with that. I haven't found in anywhere about obesity is worse than smoking, thanks for link.

I'm obesity but nearly to overweight, at 30 BMI then I will lose my weight in later when go off to college, also I'm thankful to work at wal-fart for more active and keep my weight to stable, even few pounds are lost without food diet.

Government has issue on smoking law in any countries but nothing on obesity.

Maybe they will, who knows :dunno:

Don't forgot, it's still existing at public school that where diet is more balanced for kids at all elementary school and soda are banned in almost all elementary school and middle school, also some in high school.

If health center in USA is replace by government, such as universal health center then can be happen like in UK, Canada or somewhere in Europe.

I'm not sure.

If it was aimed at saturated fat then I wouldn't be against it. Particularly as it would have to be slapped on meat and dairy products which is only a good thing.

Only they don't specify what type of fat. Poly and monosaturated fat isn't so bad for you. Omega oil is also 'fat' but it is actually healthy as it helps with brain power.

Both of you are trying to threat on our freedom since USA is freedom then we can eat any food, whatever we want too, not your decide to control on us.

I created a thread to ask everyone questions either it's good idea or not. I don't know what the people who have the problem with their weight have feeling or agree with those idea or not. I tried to picture to myself what if I am an obesity but I find none that's why I vote "Not Sure" until I see the feedback from you all before I am able to see both sides what pros and cons is until I saw Cheri's and Eve's posts and thought their posts make good sense.

Remember, it's UK - not USA.

I would say that smoking and obesity issues are the same because they risk/harm people's health. Everyone knows it. If you want to take care of your healthy or not then is your own choice. Nobody forces you with your choice because you are old enough to know what you are doing and know what healthy is about.

This article is just discuss about in UK or somewhere in Europe but I highly doubt that would happen in USA, that is doubtful to happen like that.

Yes this article is about UK, not USA. I just ask you for your opinion either it's good idea or not and need your view why you agree or disagree on this. This is a simple... It doesn't mean that USA will end the same as UK.

True, I second that. Its about care and support each other.

Yes, it's same here in Germany as well. They are being education at school about healthy nutrition etc.

Are you for it or against it?

You got me curious...

How much packet cigarettes cost in USA? also alcohols as well?

Each state are varies on costs of cigarettes on brands, Marlboro brands would cost roughly around 5.24 a pack and other brands would be roughly around $3 to $4 for a pack, but if they go to a discount cigarette store, it'll be cheaper. ;)

Chicago's tax on cigarettes is now the highest in the entire United States. so that a pack of cigarettes in Chicago now costs more than seven dollars...:eek3: And Norway, Sweden and Iceland, who charge the highest prices for alcohols--priced at 39.01 euro on average per bottle, followed by Iceland’s 28.37 euro and Sweden’s 21.54 euro average...

Not true, NJ is highest cigarette tax in USA but no record on cities were reported.
State Tax Rates on Cigarettes

Some cities are levied on cigarette tax too, Cheri.

Oh, I don't check any cigarette in somewhere except for wal-fart, that where I worked at wal-fart is outside of Cook County.

Also, that right about cities can levied more tax on cigarette if they want too but my posted was according to state rank.

Thanks for link.
