Do you think about your mortality?

I'm inclined to agree with you. But how exactly do you think it will be better? Do you have specific ideas on how it will be better, or do you think it's just a general "better?"

Read the quote of Steve Jobs I wrote down. That should give you some idea.

Liar! Put up the number of the post where I did such. I only let members know and did not preach to them nor encourage them to change anything in their life.
Do you even know the meaning of the word?

You'd better be very careful about calling me a liar. In the last two days, two people have called me that on this board. That's two more than I've ever been called a liar in my life.

Here's your post:

Here is my contribution to this thread:

Reba has eternal, everlasting life. And I'm sure she would be happy to share the way and the truth for any AD member to also have the same.

THAT is by the pure definition of the word, proselytizing. Perhaps you don't know the correct definition of it? Let me look that word up for you:

Definition of PROSELYTIZE
intransitive verb
1
: to induce someone to convert to one's faith
2
: to recruit someone to join one's party, institution, or cause
(It's also a transitive verb, but I used it in the intransitive form.)

Any intelligent person can look at what you wrote and make the correct logical conclusion.

You've broken multiple AD rules in this thread. Would you like to continue? Please, by all means. Continue.

I want to know YOUR thoughts: not Steve Jobs'.

C'mon man, I'm not trying to troll you here. I generally want to know what you think.

Please?

I think Steve Jobs is a good example of his positive direction on what he thought of about death and afterwards right before he died. Go with that.

Not to discount the reports of Steve Jobs' last words, but it was 'Wow". That is hardly a description of what is better. Especially since, when he uttered those couple of 'wows", he was still alive.

I liked his words, too. The problem is, the trail stops right when it gets good. Help me out here. I'll even show you mine if you show me yours!

I think our existence and consciousness is the result of uniting matter and energy, a very special kind of energy. Call it life energy. Call it Chi. Call it mana. Call it a spirit or soul--whatever you like. Death is the separation of those two elements. When death occurs, both begin a journey back towards where they came. My body will go to the earth, the ocean, the air, and will eventually go back to the sun, which is where the atoms that make it up were first forged.

Our spirit? It makes a journey too, like you said. Where it goes, I think that's going to be the fun part. I'm looking forward to exploring the cosmos. I want to ride a beam of light and jump into a black hole. That's just for starters. There is so much out there. We cannot even imagine.

I don't know if "I" will be conscious, since what makes up my conscious reality of experience is a complex system of neurons and synapses inside my brain, but I do think there will be some sort of knowable experience beyond what I had on earth. If dreams, out of body experiences, near death experiences, the science of the subconscious, etc. is any indication, then there certainly will be a knowable experience. And it's going to be fantastic. Oh yes. Oh wow. Oh wow, Indeed.

Your turn.

I'm looking forward to go home and meet my long departed families.

I'm kicking myself for even thinking you were capable of thoughtful, interesting conversation. I'll never make that mistake again.

Why would you say that? It's a sincere belief that many people hold, that they will see their loved ones again. And some people believe they will see, for the first time, their long-departed ancestors.

I don't happen to share that belief, but I don't doubt the sincerity of those who hold it.

I do believe that many people who are aware that they are facing death, during a lengthy illness for instance, will often find their thoughts turning to family members who have already passed.

My brother was ill for about 6 months before he died. During his last couple months, he started talking about our grandmother quite a bit, saying things like "Grandma doesn't even know I live in Florida, does she?" and other statements like that.

She had died more than 20 years previously, but suddenly he was talking about her as if she were still there and somehow communicating with him, even while he knew that she had not known, in life, where he would eventually be living. It was a strange thing to see, and clearly, in his mind, she was with him.

Who am I to say that she wasn't, in some way, present and waiting. At least it was clear that the thought of her was bringing some comfort to my brother as he faced his own imminent death, and I was grateful for that little bit of peace he was finding.

are you dying? do you have terminal illness?

I'm not commenting on his banal and simplistic statement. I'm commenting on his refusal (I know it's not inability) to provide anything of substance to the conversation, even when he is asked with sincere interest in the spirit of intellectual inquiry.

I was hoping for something thoughtful and engaging, something along the lines of what you most recently posted. :ty:

Hey, did you have anything to add to the discussion of mortality?

No? Thanks for stopping by.

That wasn't a troll. That is my belief. You asked. I made it plain and simple. And this is what I got?
