Divorce process - what is it like?

My first marriage was ok for 2 years, then she started sleeping around ( had a daughter together, My first, her 3rd kid) when we divorced she had nowhere to go and moved out of state to live with her mom, I didnt let her take our daughter out of state till papers were signed ( and she lied about signing them/mailing back to lawyer) so restraining order was issued so she didnt take her out of state. I had a full time job, bought a house. She ended up asking me if I wanted our daughter upon agreement that she doesnt pay support or anything. So I ended up with full custody of my daughter at 3y.o.

My second wife ended up being nasty, she was a control freak, so the house was in my name and I had to be slick with her. Told her we were selling the house to move and after it sold the money was put away and divorce was filed. She didnt win anything but it cost me a fortune, I didnt want any of the furniture and appliances so I let her take all that ( she felt like she won something) but I was glad to get away from it. Didnt want to bring anything with a curse attached to it...lol
And here I am in my 3rd marriage ( with a bit of a rocky road in the begining) but a lot better than the first 2...lol

Married 3x? Wow! I am 30 years old, and I have not married yet. I guess I am being too careful.

Yeah too careful, but sometimes that's wise thing to.

I married when I was 25, and divorced when I don't know, and I am now 27......._.

Update: No update on the progress with my divorce, still waiting at the moment, however I am still unable to contact my ex-wife, turns out ALL communication channels to her has been blocked. Nothing I can do here, except ask one question when an opportunity arise.

I may be totally off base but here in California if one of the parties does not reply and send back the divorce papers after a certain amount of time, then the divorce is automatically granted in the other parties favor. I know you don't live in the USA though. But there has to be some way that she not be allowed to drag this along forever. Good luck.

She is the one who needs to send the papers to me; once I have it, I have 30 days to sign it.

I handled my divorce through a lawyer too. Much easier that way. I'm happily married again now.

Meh. She is paying for the divorce and I am not, and I'd prefer this divorce to be settled outside the courtroom.

Jake, if shes the one who will pay all of the divorce. is she usually a procrastinor?? So you know where she is now??

You don't necessarily have to go to court just by having a lawyer. The lawyer gets the paperwork legal and in order (and fair and equitable!) And if the judge agrees to the paperwork, you don't even have to step in court. (At least that's how it's here in Minnesota, not sure about you in Australia.)

Jake, if you do not have a barrister, who is looking out for your interests?

Like AlleyCat said you probably wouldn't even go to court. An uncontested divorce is simple. My lawyer did all the paperwork and filing with the court all I had to do was go to his office and sign the papers he did the rest including going before a judge to get it finalized. You need to grow a pair and quit letting her run over you. Just suck it up and do it.

Frisky Feline, I do know where she is at but not accurate though, she lives on the other side of the hometown as opposed to where I am living up north. What do you mean by "procrastinator"?

Tousi, nothing but a free man.

I am not paying for the divorce to be filed, my ex-wife's problem, and she asked for it, and she will have to suffer it. I got plenty of time until the papers are shoved under my nose for me to be signed and be done with.

What if you disagree with some of the things in this paperwork.....what then?

Not knowing Australian law notwithstanding, I think you exude more confidence that is really there......best wishes

Mate, I am quite confused, ex-wife? How can she be your ex-wife if divorce has not finalized yet?

Just a technical term. A spouse can feel like an ex even if the divorce isn't final yet.
