As well they should. They deal with terrorists and gang members that have more firepower than the police, (and believe it or not) law abiding gun owners. Whether you accept it or not, ammo costs and DOJ and DHS are required by agency policy to qualify at the range every month. The ammo doesn't come out of the agents' pay check, it's purchased in bulk by the agency. (the police do this too, it just doesn't make the papers like it does for federal employees). The terrorist have changed our society permanently since 9/11. As the Israelis have shown us, either you adapt and adjust accordingly or die as fools in your ignorance. We live in a different country now with new dangers and we must always be prepared. A lot can change in a moment.

major differences between Israel and us
1. Israel is surrounded by hostile countries.... we are not
2. Israel is defended by soldiers and armored vehicles... our country does not...
3. Israel deals with suicide bombers, invaders, terrorists, etc on frequent basis.. we do not
4. we have law enforcement agencies for specific things.... we have "peace officers" for communities.... and SWAT for something more dangerous that peace officers can't do.... and National Guards for something that SWAT can't do....
5. when's the last time you've heard of gang members and terrorists gunning us down with automatic weapons like LA Bank Robbery?
when our peace officers are arming themselves and having a mentality like SWAT and National Guards... then we have already lost.
our local police officers need to focus on de-escalating situations as what many countries do like Europe, Asia, etc. they do not even have guns.
