Decisions, decisions and decisions!!

Double check yes, but I doubt that. A friend of mine in Missouri had problems with an underground sewer line or something. It was right under the house, near the house (property) BUT the city fixed it. No huge bill for her and her family. Not HER problem.

Then your friend didn't have her sewer line replaced cause the city only cleared the sewer line with a rooter snake for free, they do not replace the sewer line if it is under her house or on her property, it's the homeowner's responsibility, if the sewer line broken or blocked up near the street off the homeowner's property then it's the city's responsibility, I know more about this because I had my own sewer line replaced and without my dad's help, it would have cost me over 6 thousands dollars, lucky my dad replaced my whole sewer line for just 2,500 dollars.

Now GalaxyAngel is going through the same chit as I did. it's no fun at all.

What about water, sewer, or gas lines? If they break underground on your property, are u responsilbe for paying for the repairs?

Yes that's correct if it is on your property or in the house it's the homeowner's responsibility. I had to pay the electrical wire damage on the side of my house, the city or the electric service won't cover it unless it's on the pole or off my property.

I also had my sewer line replaced.

To answer your topic question, I would say you probably ought to live with your parents for a while to save then move out with a great start. You're only 21... and what we gathered so far here.

Just wish you the best for what you decide.

There is more time for me to decide what I can do, I might possible travel a bit more first, before purchasing the house

Yes, true so since you're young therefore there is no hurry and stress to decide. I should have traveled more at your age but had a great time at Gally. (not bad as a trade-off for me) So you choose to travel instead of attending Gally as an int'l student... that will do a good trade-off.

True, very true. Life experiences are rewarding

Great idea, I wish I had done that before I brought my house, but oh well...

Go on a short vacation to clear head, then return to the indecisive options you have to face. Only you know whats best, if it feels right follow it. If it don't, think about it some more, perhaps your gut knows something you dont. Good luck!

Jake, I read your first thread. I would advise you to follow your heart what you really want. If you want to save money then move back to your parents but.. but... you has to stick parent's rules if you live under their roof. Best thing is negotiate with your parents first before you decide either you want to live with your parents with their rules or rent one bedroom apartment with landlord's rules. It's your decision.

Yes, what you suggest is a good choice. Due my experience, we rented one bedroom apartment cheaply for 4 years to use our time for travel until we bought a land to build our dream house with our design wish.

I am afraid yes, that's why we have insurance for repairs.

I have question for the houseowners since I read Shel90's posts with houseowners.

How about Liability Insurance Coverage insurance? (You have to make sure that utilities repairs are included.)

We talked about insurance issues in my thread.

Jake, a good suggestion would be write down your pro and con's. As you might have read some of the comments to consider when owning a house such as house insurance etc.. For the time being, as you say , rent is "dead money" in your opinion. A good idea might be to move back home with your parents, this way you have a great amount money to save up and find your financial secure job. This is just a suggestion , you will be the one to determine the decision on your own :) Good luck!

Jake, as this is a good lesson for my hubby and I right now, another factor to consider is being able to afford house repairs. The AC reparman just came today and inspected our AC...it is dead..person na grada! Over 20 years old and we have to replace it. Luckily, we had money in savings for emergencies like this but that's all we have left and after paying for the new AC, we are back to square one.

Like Cheri said, if you cant afford repairs, best to rent or live with your parents until you have a significant amount of mola saved up.

Good luck with your decision! Ahhh..to be young and starting out. :)
