Are you saying you're a hearing, hh or Deaf person? (noticing you only said "d"eaf).
Regardless, heck, anyone can join. I think.....
I thought you didn't use labels.

This is a "deaf and hard of hearing" forum to begin with. I don't even use "HOH" in accounts or forums that has nothing to do with hearing loss. While I do know of some of the deaf that pretty much have "deaf" in every one of their screenames even in accounts or forums that has nothing to do with deafness or hearing loss, like when opening up a stock account or something.
Which is why I don't hang around Deaf Freedom.
Sure I would talk to them about it if they're interested but what you're saying is akin to telling blind people that they shouldn't call people who wear eyeglasses blind and that they should talk to them to see how they feel.
I am not following your argument here. I'm lost.
No.
Suppose "blindhood" existed, what do you think it would be about and what it means? Think in the context of how people would perceive the meaning of the word "deaf" versus what "blind" would mean to them. It's all about about taking it literally. Say, you wear glasses for your 20/25 vision, then that means you're blind, right? But you say, "No, not true." And they'll say, "well, you're on your blindhood journey."
Am I making it clear?
No.

Are you blind?
That is for the blind to determine, not you. This has nothing to do with any other disability.
No one here takes anything literally except you.
No.

Maybe me.
Alright, perhaps I was a little harsh in my assessment of that post and apologize to you DeafCaroline!"And lastly, for someone so resistant to identifying with Deafhood, you sure like being in the culture and community of the deaf for you are here posting every single day. "
And where did I say people who don't embrace Deafhood should leave? you're putting words in my mouth.
Maybe you literally, or maybe you to determine what blind means to you?
But no, I see you using very non-concrete language and examples. (If literally is what you meant.)
Deafhood applies to D E A F people. just deaf people, as in people who can't hear. Period. Not people with mild hearing loss because by definition, they are NOT deaf.
And by the way, I've always tried to speak to you with respect and courtesy and I never insulted you personally - instead, tried to stick to the debate itself
Why are you being so rude to me - "are you blind?" If you are going to be speaking to me like that on a regular basis, then I'm disengaging from any further dialogue with you. I love a good healthy and even passionate debate but personal insults, not so much.
And to throw you a little bit of a curveball jillio. And there are those that may also feel a little good about their "d"eaf identity. And that's when the "A" word usually gets thrown at them. So? You have a problem with people who are proud of their identity?
Why is "are you blind?" rude?? Or an insult?
