Deaf father rejected by mother's hearing family

Steinhauer, I have no advice to offer. Just want to say that you are a good friend.

I have to wonder if this father would be so persistent if there were a daughter involved. I hope that the father really steps up to the plate and parents. The child needs his father and the father is losing valuable time.

Based on the information here, it sounds like the child should get an amicus attorney.

I agree. It doesn't appear as it anyone is putting the child first.

What does an amicus attorney do?

The amicus represents the child. The attorney is solely responsible to the child and advocates for the child's interests.

I have to say that if the mother is in her 20's, she can make a decision to get a job, leave home, and take her son and live with Brian.

That is all that is stopping them. The parent's having money really should have no bearing on her decision.

Plenty of us have left home and parental control, even if it meant a meager living.

I think the girl needs more of a back bone.

We do not have any idea of what is going on in the girl's famliy and should not made any judgement when we do not have all the facts. We know nothing about her past history the parents could be really looking out for their daughter best interest. I do NOT agree about their attitude of hearing people. I think Brian should get a DNA test, they cost around $400 .He will need to go through famliy court and have a judge order the mother and baby to be tested. I know a guy that had to have this done ,he was hoping he was NOT the father. In my state once a guy start paying child support he will have to keep on paying child support even if he find out later he is NOT the dad.

AKA "Friend of the court" attorney, correct? I see many custody cases in which an amicus attorney should be used. The kids too often are nothing but pawns in the adult's bickering.

Yes, it's easier to get an amicus when the parents have enough money to pay for one. Sometimes, couples agree to get an amicus and pay for it. That's the best way to go.

2 years ago they were living as a couple.

That's nice, but that doesn't prove anything, The child still may not be his.

get the DNA testing in the first place, then fight for the child.

Since the girl is 20, the parents really doesn't have a leg to stand on in the matter.
It all rests on the girl, and sadly it looks like its her who bolted.
