It is like storms as if rains is engine the windows rattling is caused by winds pressure. hope that describe good enough? I am sure turbulence is like a pocket of stationary air that is not moving.. ?LinuxGold said:Can you describe it to us deafie on how it sound like? I'm an avid aviation by heart, currently a student pilot and always have been wondering on what it *sounded* like. The scratching of air, mechanical turbulence and all that.

severed = broken is that what you mean?LinuxGold said:Interesting. There will ALWAYS be a gap between hearing and deaf worlds.
hmm.. will cochlear implant work on deafies with severed auditory nerves (130+ db loss)?
LinuxGold said:Yep, it's broken, wayyy broken. Oh well.
Thanks.
No, was born hearing, went thru spinal mengitis and destroyed my auditory nerves. 130+ db is something that hearing aid couldn't help.2kids1hoh said:So in your case, hearing aids don't work either right? Was this something you were born with?
2kids1hoh said:This really is a great thread. It helps me understand the experiences my daughter will have if she gets an implant. I assume it will be different for her because she won't really be able to describe what she is hearing and also if she heard anything during this hearing aid process. Even if she gets implanted at 2, I don't think she will be old enough to describe sounds before getting implanted. Does that make sense?
other alternative is ABI (Auditory Brainstem Implant ) which bypass the need of the ear system. (outer/middle/inner) and directly attach to the auditory nerves. check them out via google result: http://www.google.com/search?num=10...q=ABI+Auditory+Brainstem+implants&btnG=SearchLinuxGold said:Yep, it's broken, wayyy broken. Crickets making sound at nights?

2kids1hoh said:From what I am seeing that seems to be so common. My daughter is deaf due to Connexin 26 gene. This is all new to me, and I know very little about all this, but I am learning. Does anyone know of anyone who had Connexin 26 and couldn't get an implant because of something else in the ear? I hear that most people that have Connexin 26 do not have anything else that would cause them to not be able to get an implant. Thanks.
Oops.. off topic.

Toilets flushing especially in public facilities
Really loud trucks
Leaf blowers - one of the most obnoxious sounds...Grrr
Weedwackers especially gas powered ones
Mowers - I never mow with my CI on...I get too sweaty and the noise
Hair dryers
Bathroom/Kitchen fan vents
Some but not all water faucets
Some vacuum cleaners
Places that echo noises...can be very difficult or impossible to understand speech.
Certain mufflers on cars and motorcycles (those that sort of amplify the engine noise) - I like the Harley sounds though

Can you really tell the difference between gas and electric weedwackers? Wow!
