How many people here are thinking about getting cochlear implant ??

I'm just curious cat here.

I'm thinking of this issue at times.

I'm on borderline. That's because my loss is 88 dbl in my left ear and 92 dbl in my right ear. It's a high bilateral loss although I use hearing aid.I have recently gotten my new digital hearing aids. I'm trying to get used to them and I would like to see if how much speech information I will be able to get through my digitals. If I cannot get enough then I will be applying to get implanted.

As Cheri said in her post, a CI may not work at all. This is the critical point :dizzy: even though there are many success stories.

Cheri does have a good point there, since I've read so many stories about these implants, yes there are so many successful stories that were told by those CI users or by the parents themselves but it doesn't mean one person or a few will have the same successful stories as they did, like Cheri said, CI may not work at all for some deaf people when it did worked well for the others... :)

I'm glad to see you are thinking this thing through. That is the way it should be where you weigh the pros and cons. I had similar thoughts about "how successful" this would be in the long run. That was the biggest issue that I wrestled with...none of the other stuff.

Ask around who has CI, attend meeting if your area have one, research online, talk to your audiogiost, etc. And of course on here!

I went to CI meeting, and told me all kind of stories. And alot of feedbacks, too.
My family were thrilled that I am going for it. At first when I heard about it, I REFUSED. So now I feel more comfortable understanding about CI. I have some friends has them and said LOVED them.

I am not gonna expecting anything what I wanted such as hear the music or can use the phone or whatever. I will see MYSELF after turn on and see how it goes. ONE at a time and it take time for the brain to 'wake up'.

I am not in hurry to get one anyway.

PM me if you want.
Maybe, I still haven't made up my mind 100%. just taking one day at a time...

How is that a critical point? Is it ok for me to feel what I feel, without someone jumping on me otherwise? I've heard so many successful stories the same time I've heard some doesn't work for them. I'm in the middle. Is that allright with you? :)

Cheri, the word, "critical" as used above means something like "most important". Btw, welcome back.

I thought the word "critical" was a negative word which making judgments.

My apologies.
