Ah, well, wishful thinking on my part that he'd be all clogged up by now.

I also find that very sad....
A parent not taking responsibility, not daring to make a tough decision for your child like a parent should but letting the child take the decision at a time in life when possibilities are limited.....

Let's look at this in a completely different angle. Let's say we live in a world where it's far easier for whites to get jobs than say a black person. And the medical profession came along and said "Look! We've developed a pill that will make you white! Think of how much easier your life will become and think of all the possibilities opened up to you if you just take this pill."

Would you, as a parent of a black child, make them take that pill to make themselves white so they could assimilate better into a world dominated by the power of white systems?

That's why, whenever a parent comes along and says "I implanted my child to make it easier for them in a hearing world" - I wince because you are giving in instead of saying "wait a minute, my child has rights. We need to fight more for those rights instead of trying to make them "hearing" ". Wasn't the person who started this thread saying that because his nephew is of visible minority, he has enough problems and that maybe a CI would give his nephew more of a chance in both a white AND a hearing world.

It really does make me sad to read such things. No deaf child will ever be fully hearing and whatever they do lack in hearing will affect them no matter what.

Seems to me the only thing that is limited is your attitude.

I learn not to care. Someone say once "you don't LOOK deaf..." um ok? Wtf deaf look like? I'm deaf whether ignorant hearie believe it or not, so I don't care what they think! Much easier this way. :)

When I have an emergency that requires a phone call to family, it matters because I need the hearing to make the call for me.

Once I got stranded at a bus station for two hours because I could not find anyone to make the call for me for two hours. If I had not spoken, it would have been easier to get someone to make the call.

Most of the time it doesn't matter much as the hearing usually learn the hard way I wasn't lying about my deafness. I will grant that the about situation was an extreme example.

This is what I do just to be sure to be able to avoid such a situation. I am completely deaf in the left ear and can't understand on any phone even with hearing aid in right. The phone(s) are not used often so keeping the two phones active (old dumb phone on TracFone and Droid 2 on PagePlus) should be under $200 per year unless I get carried away with other uses for the Droid.

Careful, that's his favourite word.

Did you see that Bush interview on his reactions when they told him the second plane hit the towers? What a load of...
Never mind.

Is there a conspiracy here? More ravings from the deaf Militants who apparently don't exist except under dark beds!

Yes, drphil, there's a conspiracy here. You've finally caught onto us.

Oh well nice to know: imaginary conspiracy-under the bed at midnight.
Right don't check under the bed!
