Child crying while CI being activated...

I'm curious. How can you implant babies with CIs, yet they cannot play with toys that have small parts? And while I still disagree about the child abuse - I also find it appalling that they do this surgery on babies!

Ok fair enough, I think they said that they toned it down so it wouldn't upset him but I can see your point.
 
i underrstand what he was saying, "hurt" while pointing at his ear. It must be something with inside that cord wasn't in the right place. My friend had ci and she was in painful for a year that everyone assured her that shes fine and she is not used to the sound. One year later, dr decided to take a look at it and found that the cord was not in the proper that where it hurts her nerves and cochlea. He fixed the cord inside her ear. Yea It was her twice surgery. So after that she felt much better and felt OK so far. Maybe it is what it did to him. :( poor him.

Why is it that the CI surgeons and audis will tell someone who claims to be in pain, or see a child crying in pain, and resond with 'No, you're not in pain. You're okay. You just aren't used to the sound." Dammit, people know when something hurts and when it doesn't. This is just another example of the hearing thinking they know better than the deaf.

But there are also many videos that show happy CI kids, too.

Tell the dorks that it's his choice... and gee, he hasn't asked for one yet!

If that were true, parents would get arrested every time they brought their kids into the doctor for shots. Those hurt, make kids cry...

I must have missed something. I thought Frankie hadn't yet been evaluated for a CI and that you didn't know if he was a candidate or not...
 
Maybe because she is simply choosing NOT to get one for him. Evaluation or not.

My understanding they not pursue CI option for Frankie.

Shots are not necessary for life. Good health, yes. But they are not mandatory.

My point is that you could bring in a video camera to one of my son's appointments and possibly see the same thing in that span of time. Him crying in pain, me consoling him. Will you report me to CPS for seeing that 23 seconds of footage? I'm sure I'll look like a bad mother in that time.

Recheck my post. I am NOT in favor of CIs for these little children! I just don't like the 'abuse' label put on parents when their child experiences pain. These people may be misguided and ignorant - but I don't believe they're abusive. Big difference.
 
I think take away their identity, their choice, their language IS ABUSIVE.
