Chia seeds

My health food co-op has a new fruity drink that has the seeds in it. I'm wondering if what that lady had at your store, is similar. I think the product I'm picturing is this: http://www.mammachia.com/vitality-beverages

I get various things from our co-op's bulk bins. Better deals than pre-packaged!

Oh, no, she just had one of those bottles that you fill yourself and use over and over. I think she just had water and seeds in it, but I'm not 100% sure.

I love the bulk sections too. I especially like (assuming I've got enough presence of mind to plan ahead) that I can bring my own containers and not generate more waste just to get my groceries home. Plus they let you weigh the empties before you start filling them, so that you don't pay for the weight of the container.

I've seen them at Costco and have seriously thought about getting then to add to my post work out protein shakes. My budget has been killing me lately so it's been pretty easy to decide not to. They're high in protein you say hmmmm. I'm forever looking for ways to add more protein to my diet.

protein shakes.... homemade or you buy them at store?

do they sell the smallest bag? I would like to test on it without buying a big bag if i dislike it and waste money.

There is no way BUT to eat them raw, as is. If you wash them they hydrate and turn to gel.

I like this recipe a lot: Chia Pudding | Whole Foods Market

There are many like that.

I also really like the drinks with juice with chia seed in them. They have a fermented kick to them. There's a warning on the side not to eat too many.

:ty:

just bookmarked it. that looks quite delicious! gonna buy a couple of ingredients when I go on grocery run.

Well I use Cytisports muscle milk, but I use 4oz almond milk 4oz of fage plain Greek yogurt, I was using almond butter but is found peanut butter tastes better, so like a tbsp of that, small handful of frozen berries, rasp, blue and black and a big handful of kale. And ice, sometimes ill use banana and granola, or add a tsp of instant coffee.

Just today my friend showed a photo of her chia plants. They were very pretty. She just tossed the seeds on the ground and then gently stepped on them. They reminded me of tall lavender plants.
I do wonder if it would be worthwhile to grow them for other than curiosity?

Not me.. still, little kids touches them!:giggle:
I just bought a small bag of them prepackaged in a health food store. Bob Red Mill sells them that way too. Spendy but you get a surprising amount of use out of a pound. Good way to go just to try them out. Then you can decide about larger quantities. I do not ever see little kids playing in the bulk foods. All produce is grown in the dirt and fertilized somehow. They can only wash stuff so much before it radically effects the longevity at the market.

I wondered what they looked like. Thanks. It is I think a practical future to keep the little family plot of land in the family growing foods. In a world where really there is not enough jobs for us all and a lot of those are unnecessary jobs back to the land is where a lot of us need to be. Smiles here, raising my hand. I remember when I couldn't wait to get away from that garden.

At my co-op the spices and teas etc have their own bulk area. That's where they kept the chia seeds. All those things are in big jars, with lids screwed shut, and they're up on shelves. I don't think kids are getting in there.

I have one friend of mine that has a lot of constipation issues. I am thinking of suggesting flaxseed to her. It seems like it would be a good "medicine" to help with that. I have never tried eating chia seeds. Maybe I will try some.
