Cardboard over grille?

Because oil in A/C compressor and system need to circulating, compressor will run anytime if you turn to heater or defrost mode but compressor will shut off when the ambient temperature is around 35 degree depend on the vehicle manufacturers. If you want to remove fuse to disable A/C compressor, stay with heater for winter time, reinstall fuse to activate the compressor in spring/summer time then the compressor may develop noises or seize.

I have no problem with my old Subaru for AC system and it parked outside during winter for 7 years.

Ok, heres the deal.
Cardboard on a gas car, especially older cars, help it warm up faster.
When its extremely cold the heat isnt as HOT and more luke warm, so the cardboard helps keep the temp up by not letting the radiator lower the temp ( and it wont overheat in the winter as long as the water pump works) older cars also took forever to heat especially the V8. Get in a new dodge neon and its blowing hot before you get to the corner ( I had both so I know first hand) so, there you have it and there you are. lol

Oh also, older cars and some new cars, the transmission lines ran into the radiator to cool the trans fluid as well, Older cars and most new cars as well, the trans proper operating temp is around 700 degrees, so the hot radiator helps warm the fluid as well, then also acts as a cooler when it reaches temp. almost forgot about that.

That's why warm up engine without drive FIRST. Drive around during warm up engine was not really good idea like -10F due gel oil or damage bearing for motor.

All Manual transmission for auto and semi-truck don't needs radiator.

yeah but still the cardboard helps it warm faster since the fan is always pulling the cold air through.

For old school vehicles yes, I don't see many old schools vehicles around here during winter. So most late 80's use electric radiator fan and should no problem with that.

true, newer cars are different with the electric fans that kick on when temp is reached, which they rarely do in the winter months. where older cars the fan ran with the motor, direct drive off the water pump/pulley assemblies.

That's calls clutch fans like Deafsmog said. Brand new Semi-truck as 2013 and it still use clutch fan.

Normal transmission fluid temperature on the most vehicles is 175 degree. 700 degree you mentioned above is unheard of...

Never seen it, but I once saw a pickup with a big plank as a rear bumper..lol

My friend had one for her SUV . . . a nicely stained wood plank bumper.

The one I saw wasn't stained or treated at all, just a plank directly out of the lumber section from a home improvement store. The plank didn't look nice, just looked like an ordinary plank stuck on as bumper.

Work as co-worker or boss? Better talk boss first. If boss said so then follow whatever she/he said. Not our problem.

Yes, it's true to waste gas for idle during warm up BUT oil is not warm enough to lubricant engine and engine would be short life.

For diesel motor? It would misfired so easy if skip warm-up during winter time (20F or less)

Boss and driector BS want save money. They dont care if client freeze in cold. They said car mmanufacturer said it unnecessary to warm up.

Car manufacturer said that? Never heard of that before. Better ask to Deaftechsmog. He works longer than me like 20 years.

well today I pulled out the tow chain, got me a nice tree in my yard and started pulling the front end out.... Im still a 1/4" off but better than the 4" it was. I also cleaned my IAC as it kept dying when parking or tapping the gas (sudden rev to idle) now its smooth, idles better and doesnt die, lots of carbon build up on the plunger and inside the housing.
