I didn't know your insurance policy, therefore I didn't understand why your insurance have to paid the dammage. In Finland it's not possible, because every car have to be insured, and if something happened, then every time all would be paid for that cars insurance whose driver fault the accident is. Driver don't need to have personal insurance, but every car have to be insured.
Ok. Now I understand that expensive price somehow.

Yup, USA is different because it is varies from state to other state.

Most states require you to have auto insurance that cover liability, just for you only and you have to pay extra if you want add someone to insurance policy.

People who are under 25 have high premium cost due to greater risk of car accidents.

If you use auto loan to buy car so you are required to have full insurance for car.

Interesting about Finland but I'm not sure if auto insurance in USA is flawed or not.
