I had car accident today after shopped at Publix. When I got backed out so successfully but other car in next of me is waiting, as other one black SUV got backed out that very closer to me so I was yelling and wave to get their attention but no luck. The black SUV hit my side of car, just top of first tire so I just damn. One woman told me that she was extremely apologize about accident and I told her that I need get police to fill out the accident report because our insurance company, even her too require accident report to process the claim to car to fixed. She told me that she need take her child to baseball game and will come back in 10 minutes so I just said sure, no problem. I just got in Publix to got manager to call police to do accident report and they gave me a yellow notes to communicate with police. I waited about several minutes until police arrive and he is riding the motorcycle. I just gave driver license, registration, and insurance, also handover the note that woman wrote it with driver license number, car tag number, phone number, etc to police. I just explained about situation with car accident. The police checked the woman's driver license into his laptop and he showed me that driver license is male so I was like what?!! but... one woman got back from baseball game and she explained about situation with car accident. I was puzzled because she uses his husband or father driver license to report on accident. Police discussed with them and got all requirement, especially driver license, registration and insurance. I asked her if she has insurance so she said yes, she has one. I was like thanks to god that I don't have to pay for repair due to uninsured motor. She apologized to me about what happened with car accident and she admitted that it was her fault for not pay attention when back out. I said sure, no problem, it is okay and her insurance is going pay to fix my car so she hugged me. The police is very nice and got good communicate from him.

It isn't my first time to involve in car accident, my last car accident was in 2008 at night in suburb of Chicago, other two from 2005 and 2007. The car accident in 2005 is worst ever and my old car got totaled so I was sad because my parent gifted to me in 2004. The front was entirely destroyed and I got moderate injuries with medium bruise on my leg. The man at body shop told me that accident can be very fatal.

Lucky it was an honest person. I would have been afraid they wouldn't come back if they left.

It's really good that they admitted it was their fault.

Yup, it wasn't concern to me because they gave me a driver license number, car tag number, phone number, etc so her son has baseball game so she doesn't want miss it. I just said okay and she came back in 10 minutes as promised. If not, it means her driver license will be suspended or revoked for failure to comply with car accident. Our state has zero tolerance on anyone who flee accident site after got involved in accident and they will get serious consequence, even it won't make lesser of charge.

I'm glad that you're OK.

I second Reba's thoughts... Glad you weren't hurt...

:ty: I'm relieved it wasn't terrible car accident that I was experienced in 2005.

Good to know it wasn't a bad accident and that you're OK, Foxrac....Very lucky that woman was "honest", and did come back....some people will give you false information, even say that you ran into them....So there are some good and honest people out there, unfortunately there are many who are not.

Lucky that she had insurance. Sometimes, life is unfair, you know. People don't have insurance and then you're on hook. Law should be changed on something like this.

You're lucky you are ok.

My car was once hit by a hit-and-run driver who ran a red light at an intersection. I got his license tag number but it turned out to be bogus (it belonged to a junked car in another state). But I made out OK. My insurance paid for all the repairs, didn't charge me a deductible, provided a rental car, and did not increase my premiums. In our state (probably others, too), my insurance covers me against uninsured or unknown drivers.

I'm jealous! Been waiting over a year to go to small claim court over a non-insured driver. I keep thinking why the wait but they keep telling me my case has not been set for court yet. I'll keep waiting.

Good for you, Foxrac that this lady had insurance and was kind to you. Best of luck getting an excellent repaire job.

What a hassle! I never had to go to court to collect on auto insurance claims. My insurance company handled everything. They paid me almost immediately.

They told me that they (the insurance company) pays out the claim to the insured driver. If they think they can collect any pay back from the uninsured driver, then they go to court for themselves. That's the point of having uninsured motorist coverage; the insured person is covered and doesn't have to worry about going to court.

I think it's required in my state.

Here in IL, the minimum required is liability coverage. Sadly, that is what I have. I would suppose that I'm too cheap to get added coverage.

Foxrac - I am glad this was not more serious and also glad that you are okay. You were very lucky in your situation in more ways than one.

You use USAA insurance?

Foxrac, was your car drivable after, or did it have to be towed to the shop?

Wow, I will be extremely upset if drivers don't have insurance and I don't understand why some people rather to ignore the state law that require auto insurance. Having car require personal responsibility and comply with state law.

I'm glad that you went through without any hassle.
