Can You Trust Audiologists?

Maybe our hearing goes up and down depending on the days? It's hard to hear sounds sometimes confusing it for a tinnitus sound.

Why do you think they sometimes fudge?

Look at the numbers they put on the sheet, audiogram, they typically dont add up with how many times you've click the little button. It dont take a mathematician to figure this stuff out.

Clicking the little button is not the only variable, particularly if you are clicking the button at an innappropriate time.

Also, they will test the same frequency a few times before deciding what decible level your threshold is at. You have had to press the button three or more times at the same frequency at the same decible level before they chart it. This is true of any half competant audiologist.

Exactly.

I think they talk more about their own hearing aids cuz they know their own hearing aids best.

That's why you should get more than one opinion or an opinion of someone who does not sell hearing aids. :dunno:

I did have a similar problem with an audiologist once, at NTID... but for CI, not hearing aids. I later found out that the audiologist had a "deal" with CI companies. If they refer students to get CIs, the school gets donations... which turns to the audiologist getting a bonus.

Yep some CI companies give kickbacks. I was shocked when I found out a few months ago while researching CI companies. Hence, is one of the reasons I chose MedEl. Advanced Bionics to this day have not really responded to the FDA proposed 2.2 million dollar fine and among other things. Buyer Beware and do your research BEFORE signing anything. Especually big purchases which include hearing aids. I had one ole lady audie try to push a brand on me and I walked out the door. Her asst called me a few days later and begged me to come back and was more " professional". I told her the ears belong to me and I have to wear em for 5 to 7 years. I picked the hearing aids that sound the best to me . Don't let anyone push a brand on you. You have the right to try different models. Just like buying a car. "Test Drive" as many as you can , then choose the one you like the most.
