Sorry to hear that your hearing is going down hill so fast. Have you tried hearing aids first. From what I read from other threads, CI is benefits only if hearing aids don't help. Wish you good luck.

Also I'm wondering with CI, does it help to catch words what was being said without lipreading. Anyone can answer to this question also?

Sorry for the delay I have an hearing aid but I have meriere's So ever thing Is louder but not clear

Yea, I can hear music with CI but not normal and confused what word said.

Then you need to explain when you make statements that you 'used to' be able to hear music - you always answer questions in the present tense, as if its something you can do right now.

Alright, it's impossible to use past tense.

then, whatever... I don't care...

luciadisturbed ... I've tried to catch up your threads regard CI that you were planning to have. I read one post that your Medicare and Medicaid will help paying your CI expenses however not sure if they will cover both two CI. I tried to catch up if you have found out yet or not. Also are you planning to have one or two CI?

Yes, Medicaid and Medicaid is covering my CI and the surgery, but they are covering only one, though. But that's ok, because in a few years I will be done with college and I will be able to have a job, and I will be able to get insurance through my job, and then I can get the other ear implanted. I think it works out in my favor in this case, I won't have to fight to get insurance from job to cover the 2nd CI. :D

In case, If parent's insurance don't approval for us to get other CI then I will tell VR to order digital HA that called SUMO and its powerful HA. I need that for job but small benefit for me. For molds, I want mixed navy and black or navy and orange.

I get over the fact that in a country like America deaf people have to struggle to get a CI if they dont have a job its wrong .

I was just turned on about a little over a week ago. *Time is flying* lol and I am already starting to hear music. Not clear yet mind ya but it is getting so I can pick up some of the lyrics to my fave songs and can start to hear the music to the song. It will be a while before I am able to hear it all though.

But still if I dont practice I will never get. And being as music was one of the things I really wanted to hear again it is important for me to try to get it asap.

Great update!

I not sure one can ever hear all the lyrics with using a HA or a CI. I do notice that I do hear much more of the lyrics than when I had my HA. Certain "singing" distortions on words really make it problematical in that regard. I will say that one can have a great experience listening to music overall. I listen all the time to music at work via internet radio and it makes the day all the better.

That's right but depends on people and some insurance isn't cover it. Most insurance do cover on people and medicare/medicaid do cover on some people too.

WTF - more deaf people getting ci, and I don't call them deaf anymore, but they are considering themselves as they are part of the deaf culture. I disagree with that.

It is so sad to know that there are so many deaf people wanted to become hearing, it is all because of music.

Music is SO to me.

Geez, what kind of planet I am currently living in? Earth? Earyeth? Eyeth?

Er...what is the problem?

I don't see why having a CI makes one not considered part of the deaf culture. Just wearing a CI doesn't make one not deaf (or said this way...it doesn't make one hearing). One with a CI is deaf anyway you put it. I know well that I'm quite deaf without my CI. I also know that I'm not a part of the deaf culture either (long story). Having the ability to hear music or better yet spoken language does not disqualify one from participating in deaf culture. Letting people being considered a part of deaf culture shouldn't be outright discriminatory in the mode of "Thou must be deafer than thou art" nonsense. Some do and some don't want to be a part of it. Each to their own...

It is no crime for people to want to hear things. For those that have experienced sounds, it provides much information and enjoyment. Music is rather special because how it touches one's soul. It can mean many things to many people. There is no equivalent for those who cannot hear it at all. Those visual light shows sort of come close but they don't hit the emotions and psychic the way music does. I don't know if you ever heard music before. If so, it is simply your opinion and you shouldn't knock it. If not, you really don't have a clue about what you're talking about.

Live and let live...
