yep today's engine can last that long... while old carbureted engine in the early years lasts about 100K or less. Since today's engine have computer control and fuel injected that help last much longer. Just like Sablescort said.. change oil, tune up, etc keep proper maintenace will help you keep it running longer longer. If neglected, it will give you a lot problems...

Also Diesels are known to last forever to million miles...

I Wish ! But My Car Is New. But I Like To Say That My Mother's Sonata Only Have 42,000 K. It Is A 1998 Year Model.

I means if car mileage is already passed 100,000 then it wouldn't good to drive, such as cause alot of problem? I never to drive any cars that had more than 100,000 mileage.

No, not really. Cars can run fine even with more than 100k miles if it's properly taken care of and stuff like that. It depends what kind of car you buy. Some cars are less reliable than the others, some are more reliable. I had a 1983 Honda Civic with over 200k miles on it and it still ran good. I sold my 1987 Honda Civic with 120,000 miles on it and had a 1982 Honda Prelude with about 170,000 miles and had it for a short time. My gf had a 1992 Chevy Caliver 2 door that died at 345,000 miles. It was her best car she ever had, even her family and friends loved her car.

Yea, Most American cars are short in life than Asian cars but I don't know about Germany or European cars.

I wonders if car insurance can pay off when old car is died.

Well, I just bought 1991 Honda Gold Wing SE with 126, 454 miles. Does that count? It is scheduled to be converted to a trike and I will baby it and hopefully get up to 400K miles on it. :)

Wow, do motorcycles last that long? I've heard many times that motorcycles don't last that long. I've never heard of a motorcycle that actually has over 100k miles on it. Most of them I've seen or heard only has under 50-70k miles on it.

Yeah foreign cars are better than domestic cars in the old times, but now it changed since domestic doing a lot better now. Not every vehicles are perfect, it does have flaws. Older Volvo, Hondas and Toyota are known to last long time in fact, there is one same Volvo owner who owns 1966 car that has 2.5 million miles on her as of now with same original everything. Truck: 1994 GMC Sierra GT K-1500.....181K....still running smooth
Car: 2001 Chevy Cavaliar 150K...still run great
Motorcycle: 1983 Honda Shadow...115K....still running good and just being little leak oil. (right after graudate HS buy Bike.)

Only Goldwings can last that long. These Honda Goldwings were known to last almost forever. I have seen those hitting 300 and 400k miles and still running strong. Ahem, Harley can hit 100 to 200k miles but this would involve major engine overhauls few times before hitting 200k miles, not Honda Goldwings!

Very nice!!! I have seen GL1500SEi. Actually friend of mine have that, 1993, and I think you got very good one. Even though 126 may be high miles but STILL plenty of life left, you could easily hit 400k miles if you want to, I bought 1986 GL1200 with only 12,700 miles (now 15.700 miles) 6 weeks ago! I was glad to be able to get that low miles that way, I can put in AMSoil fully sythenic oil and it would be troublefree for real long time!

Yup that is true! FYI cars with highway mileage outlast any cars with "City" mileage. Believe it or not, cars that has 25,000 miles on city is equal to the cars that has 250,000 miles on the highway. These highway mileage tend to have very little wear and tear on them than those in the city all the time. Cars driven mostly in the city tend to have alot wear and tears on it... Too much changing transmission gears, too much braking, too much go, alot parts changing frequently in the city and causing them to wear down faster.

Yes, today cars are better because they were precise manufactured. 30 years ago, manufacturer don't have computer and controls that could cut down to micrometer like today can, so meaning back then quality were "good enough" comparing to today, if its 1/2000th of an inch off its bad and will reject and go in recycle bin! Yes, that is right today manufacturer is very picky on tolerance, that is why they were able to build better and stronger quality stuff.

I bought the van a few weeks ago and it has 277 thou km on it. I have a feeling that the engine's been swapped...it doesnt feel tired or anything. I'm going to drive the van til it kicks the bucket.

My vehicle is a 2000 Chevy S-10 LT extended cab. It's 2WD. It has about 83,000 miles. No any problems so far! I have had my truck get oil changed every 3 to 4,000 miles to keep an engine life last longer.

the lastest one i had 1993 ford tempo is gone -- it was around 150k.

right now i got a brand new car ford focus 2006 i got it around 800 miles, now it went up to 2,000 yea i drive a lil too much. soon minnesota to IL -- more miles!!!

Yeah, Sequoias, I wondered, too, at first. But I have talked to some mechanics, and other individuals and they pretty much say if I take real good care of the machine, it should last that long.....so, here's hoping......Maybe DieHardBiker will know something about this.......
