Body found from missing cargo ship

Very sad. :(

It seems that maybe the master delayed too long before giving the abandon ship order.

Yes is does sound this way . They should had abandon ship when they first had trouble . :( I was hoping for a better outcome , maybe some people are still alive . :aw:

Reba, in your training, at any time did you have to put on the survival suit? My DH said that once on you can barely move, therefore no one puts them on til the last minute, which is obviously too late!

No, I wasn't assigned to a ship for duty.

I can ask TCS later if he did but I don't think so. They weren't using the suits back in his day on ships. He was on two WWII-era destroyers and one mine countermeasures ship.

It makes sense that they'd be uncomfortable.

Yes, sometimes last minute is too late. :(

Why did they ship towards hurricane? ... I will never understand.

May God bless them all for a lovely entrance into Heaven and curse the ones who made it into Hell.

Sad as it may be, but must move on to carry life it goes!.. :)

This question asked when other ships were lost at sea , like the one
in The Perfect Storm . I think the captains can't admit they were wrong in going out in the first place , their ego is too big.

I agree with you. All ships should stop or change route if hurricanes hit.

The ship's owner said that the ship's master was trying to go around the storm but the ship's propulsion system quit working. That meant they lost control of the ship, including steering, so it drifted into the storm area.

That would be scary, when you realize there's nothing you can do when certain components of the ship quit working.

What would the ship's propulsion system to stop working ,poor upkeep of the ship?

Not necessarily, water could have got at it, it only had one boiler. Most ships that size have two, one for a backup. They were sitting ducks, just stalled there at the whims of the wind and waves, shudder!

The El Faro departed from Jacksonville, Florida on September 29, when Joaquin was still a tropical storm, with 28 crew members from the United States and five from Poland.

OK , I was wondering how it stopped working , I agree this how horrible this had to been for everyone on the ship. :( Two people are from Ma.
