Bill would allow SC teachers to carry guns

Whether the schools have armed teachers, off duty police officers, etc. don't fool yourself into thinking that a school shooting won't happen and it will be safe. You will have either a teacher shooting someone on accident or someone hell bent on killing someone avoiding the security measures and shooting up a classroom before they themselves are "taken out" or take themselves out. The person they will shoot first will probably be the teacher as happened in OR. All guns will do is give you a false sense of security. We have had several students shot at schools over the years and all the schools had armed on campus security

What is your best solution to stop the school mass shooting?

that's entirely up to school districts

That actually bothers me a bit... School districts will only keep up as much training as they can afford... Would like to see them partner with sheriff's office of the like to ensure proper training... Then again was is not a cop that shot himself during a safety training...

Training, qualifying and practicing need to be done on a regular basis. I don't know what the legislation will require.

I was wondering about the safes myself. If it's one big safe in the admin section of the school that wouldn't make much sense. :dunno:

Schools are obviously a weak point and a target so teachers armed makes sense to me more than teachers hiding in a classroom hoping the shooter passes by...
But training is a must... Ensuring they can keep control of their weapon is also a must... Schools are not exactly a perfect setting for having dangerous curiosities in improper hands...

Cops are just people too. They make mistakes. Sometimes stupid ones!

Ah... But that one was spectacular show of ... I cannot say stupidity... For he knew better... So will say lack of attention... Everyone is vulnerable to the human condition... But I would still rather teachers and other civilians to get training from a cop that shoots himself than from Johnny Rodgers down the street.... Unless it is a seasoned combat vet I would not leave it to just vets either...

again... you're making it much more complicated than it has to be.

if school districts cannot afford it plus the liability... they're most likely not going to do it. this is up to every town voters to go for it or not.

don't worry about the training and all these little details. we're talking about schools and kids. can you imagine the liability and risk factor? the liability is so high that they'll obviously ensure that teachers will get trainings, certifications, etc. many teachers most likely will not opt for it.

don't worry about it. calm down. this is not a big news. this is not a big thing. this is simply sending a message to criminals that schools in South Carolina are no longer "gun-free" place and they may be shot by law-abiding citizens.

Not worked up about it... Just looking further then the surface... If that is a problem.. cool...

Unfortunately, the only way your going to stop it, is to make schools have only one way in and one way out and put an armed guard or guards at that entrance. Once the shooter is on campus people are going to get shot. Having armed teachers will only limit the number of people killed as long as they aren't the first to be shot or facing weapons that are better than theirs.

As a parent, I prefer a teacher being able to carry. If they receive the training, and will protect my children from the crazy psychos out there, I want them to have the proper tools to do so.

I don't want them getting killed after they hid my child in a closet because they didn't have a gun to protect themselves. then, in turn, after being killed, the psycho opens the closet door to find my child, defenseless, just like the dead teacher.

It does lower the probability of school shooting if schools are adopt the measure to secure the school.

I know there is no best solution to prevent the school shooting but you could lower the chance.

Yes. Deaf Israelis mentioned about how they are always careful. Deaf Palestinians actually signed with deaf Israelis. Just don't talk about the religions.

That's interesting and I heard about Israel is dealing with terrorist attack everyday.

DC Public Schools have detectors and kids still swindled guns in.

It does nothing to lower the probability, just potentially lowers the number of victims providing the people with the guns aren't shot first.

Exactly my point! Unless you want to turn our schools into prison like settings you won't be able to keep guns or shooters out and even in prison people get killed with weapons. You can do what you can to limit the damage but if it's going to happen, it's going to happen as long as you have people with guns who should not have them.

I think he means it lowers the probability the same way having a home alarm system sign in front of your house does--the bad guys will look for easier targets.

So, all the more reason for the people who should have guns to be able to carry them more places.

Great, a new breed of kids will emerge to challenge teachers into being coerced to use them against students. In my opinion, it's like replacing one issue for another, it's very distracting and not the answer. I would prefer a few armed security professionals over teachers regardless of experience.
