Belgium becomes first Euro country to ban the burkha

Personally, I think it little silly to ban it. I mean, some people have to wear mask for respiratory issues, or wear a scarf to stay warm.

Now, if they were talking about employment, I can see why because if you hired 5 people that wear burka, you can't tell from the security camera which did something illegal.

Many muslims are against the burka, and it's an invention from Afghanistan, not something found in the Quaran. Secular countries with a muslim majority don't have problems with banning it.

But westerns seems confused why they want to ban it and somehow try to keep up the self image as a tolerant people who allows religious freedom. Do we want to ban it because of politics(some terrorists seems to support burka), security issues(who are you), women rights or is it plain racism/islamophobia?

To me, the solution is to accept that we have to ban it for various reasons, while we acknowledge that Islam is back in europe, and have a right to influence the culture and prosper along with other religions. Something like Allahu Akbar ;)

Only problem that camera in security system wouldn't able to identify during threaten or criminal in act, it's better to keep face being open. In my opinion, as it goes same thing to our ID card

This could be solved by banning burkas where it's security cameras, just adding "covering face with cloths is illegal" on signs warning about survevillance.

If women wear them of free will, it shouldn't be a big problem.

To me, it's telling people how "less" they should dress in public. who want authorities fine you for being too covered in public.

yeah, I think a person with a ski mask on would not be taken too lightly when he enter a bank/convenience store

If I got you right, I am not sure I agree with you

It's a problem that many women are forced to wear them by their family, perhaps their mother, father or husband or whatever. Suppose this woman is deaf, and is left out of social chatting because she have to wear the burka? How do we solve that one?

Family cultural upbringing is not be something you should worry about

Many banks now have signs at their front doors that state, "No hats, hoods, or sunglasses."

Even if that means physical or psycholigical abuse?

You don't have laws against that? As far as Psychological abuse,Anything can be consider as psychological abuse. So I only think the child should be removed if they made the child feel unwanted/unloved/worthless (calling them Stupid or say they hate them or things like that). As far as husbands, I just hope the woman wise up and leave him for abusing.

Banning Burkha is not going to stop the abuse. Sorry.

At most of time, I wear hat and sunglasses when enter to my bank. Heh heh. Even I don't see the sign mention like that. Hmm... At least, every staff in there knew it's me anyway.

This reminds me of something: it is a common southern courtesy that men take off their hats when they enter the building.

And then just how do southern gentlemen say the equivalent of, "Everybody on the floor! Dis is a stick-up!!!"?
