Beatdown of transgendered in Baltimore, MD McDonalds

What do I think? It's disgusting, of course. The violence was totally uncalled for, and the employees of the restaurant certainly didn't handle things right.

If you haven't seen the video - it's disgusting. Two irate young women (one a girl of 14, the other one 18), kicked, beat, and dragged a young transgendered woman across the floor.

The only person who really did much to help the woman being kicked was an older, overweight and out of shape, woman. Good for her for stepping up when younger, fitter people didn't bother.

A man in a blue shirt sort of tried to help, but not very effectively. Couldn't tell if he was a McD's employee or not. Also couldn't tell if anyone was on the phone trying to call 911.

The young man who filmed the whole thing has now been fired by McDonald's.

I watched it and it was very upsetting. I noticed he filmed the seizure too.

Also noticed the person being beaten clinging to the old lady's leg.

It looked like management just kept walking by looking.

I wonder why they didn't get fired too?

You're thinking the man in the blue shirt was the manager? Might be. If so, I wonder the same thing!

If he was the franchise owner, though, then I don't know if McD's can fire an owner. I don't know much about how McDonald's business plan works.

It makes it even worse if he was the franchise owner, vs. an employed manager, in terms of controlling his own shop and being concerned about public safety..

I forgot that about the franchises. So yes, that could have been the owner. :(

I saw this recently, have thought about some of it but noticed it wasn't here.

What do you think of the situation? There is a video at the site.
Have you ever been a victim of racial, ethical, or minority discrimination?

I don't know or understand why because of no subtitle. But I agreed with another members; a whole situation is terribly wrong.

I remember I was in a bus and headed for home from my old work, I saw some gangs were fought. They were near to me and other people. It was so scary! I'm so glad nobody but gangs is hurt. They hit and kicked each other, though one of gangs kicked toward one another guy who was sat right next to me...

It was happened in July 26, 2007. Frightened... :(

Okay, I am done reading a whole article. It seems she just entered in a woman restroom and two women got anger because she is a transsexual/dress like a woman?

I doubt that the guy's, who filmed a whole situation, comment about her seizure is fake. It seems she did go under her seizure.

Still, they did so wrong. I don't appreciate them.

Oh, yes, we are a kinder, gentler nation. This is not the only thread currently that shows exactly how much intolerance and discrimination goes on in this country at this point in time. Frankly, it shames me.

The transgendered female....was still actually a male, with a penis...The 2 black girls told him to use the male bathroom, not the female bathroom.

There were "smart remarks" made by the "non-fully trangenered female"...So..."she" or "he" got a beating.....because she would not use the "proper" bathroom......since "she" still had a PENIS...then the bathroom for Males is what "she" should have been using.

I agree, the fight was vicious, and the manager should have been called to stop it before it got too much out of hand.

Then again, I would be angry if I went to the bathroom to find a "man" standing up to use the toilet, since I'm female. I would have called the manager and the police.

I don't know when there will be seperate bathrooms for transgendered people! Or if there ever will be.....it's a sad situation to be in.

If it was a woman's bathroom, there were no doubt doors on the stall, so no one would know if the person was standing up, sitting down, had a penis or had a vagina unless they were looking over the top of the stall or under the door. Take care of your own business when you are in a bathroom and what someone else is doing will not be a concern.

Usually the doors in the women's bathroom are not complete, to the floor, doors, but about 18" above floor level, so yes, you could see if someone were standing there facing the toilet to do his business, by the position of the feet.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that either, but there is no excuse for that sort of violent beating.

Considering the clothing those girls were wearing, and how much of her backside the one was exposing, it hardly looked like "modesty" was the first thing on her mind, though. She just felt like beating the living daylights out of someone, and did so.

If all you see are feet facing the opposite direction, it could be that they are facing the toilet because they are vomiting, or because they have turned around to locate the flush handle. Unless of course, you get down on the floor in order to have a better view of the person.

I don't get the intensity of the reaction. It's not like a transgendered person urinating in a woman's bathroom poses a direct threat to anyone in that bathroom.

I think I could tell the difference by sound, stance and smell, if someone were vomiting, peeing, or taking a second to find the flush handle.

If I were seated in a stall and thought that a man were next to me, I'd get out of there as soon as I could finish, and go find the manager to say I believed there was a man in the women's bathroom. It's up to the manager to handle it.

But as I was trying to make clear, I don't think the girls who did the beating were honestly all that upset about their modesty being offended. They just felt like getting into a fight, and found an excuse.

I go into a bathroom to take care of my business. I really have no interest in what the person in the next stall is doing, or what direction they are facing. I certainly am not going to take the time to try to figure it out by listening to the sound of their urination.

But, hey, that's just me.

 No wonder I like staying home so much!
